Cool build. Your FJ40 turned out great, so I'm really looking forward to this build.

Those brackets look nice too. Can we see pictures of your press and dies?

Thanks!

You say simple, but magic to most of us......

Good on ya,

Thanks. Bends are made with a 20 ton press and some pretty simple bending dies that I made.

I've been busy but finally got some time to spend on the 45 so I started to take the bed apart and see what I've got to work with. I bought one of these spot weld drill bits. It works good but you do have to be very careful. I broke a couple when the panel would pop loose as the spot weld was cut. Good thing the cutter head is replacable and not as expensive as buying it with the arbor. I found out that they are less likely to break if I use a less powerful drill like an air drill or battery powered drill. The 1/2" Milwalkee won't stop if anything happens to bind up and the result is that the teeth on the cutter just shatter.

To remove the parts of the bed floor just behind the wheel wells you also need to remove several philips headed bolts. The bolts were very rusted and I couldn't hold them with a screwdriver while turning the nut so I just drilled them out to remove the head of the bolt.

Rear valance is off and the support just ahead of it is also off.

Right and left bed sides are separated with wheel wells still attached as well as the small bed floor sections

Also spent a little time bolting up the rear axle calipers and brackets to test fit.

Yeah the white one. Nice work. I'm glad somebody on here got it. Keep the pics coming.

Spent more time taking the box apart. Man, I'm tired of drilling out spot welds.

Drinking a  and trying to decide how short to make the bed. this template has 6" taken out between the cab and wheelwells and about 18" off the overhang. I plan to shorten the wheelbase as well.
