I've had this frame going on 10 years and yesterday I finally assembled it into a functional bike. I built it in a "traditional" klunker style with the exception of the wheels and tires. Instead of 26" Schwinn S2 wheels I'm using S4 wheels from a 50's Schwinn tandem that happen to be 650b/27.5". Front hub is from a '47 Schwinn tandem, Morrow coaster brake rear. 18x10 gearing turning a skip tooth 3/16" chain. Tires are 2.35 wide, chain stays were modified for tire clearance. Fork fits the bigger rubber like it was made for it. Brooks Conquest saddle on a Schwinn exerciser seat post. Many parts will change over time but I'm so stoked to have it working!
In 2 weeks I’ll be riding this 40lb coaster brake antique 38 miles from Crested Butte to Aspen via Pearl Pass (12,700’) on the 50th annual Pearl Pass Klunker Tour, the oldest event in mountain biking.
