It might work with the Slee rear bumper...my experience with trying to get the Aussie dealers to reply to e-mails has been poor...it's too bad these companies don't have a dealer/distributor stateside...

This tank looks like it would be simpler than adding a second tank and all the complexity involved...

It says on the website that it replaces the 55 liter sub tank. Does this mean, that we could keep our existing tank and add this too? That would be some major fuel capacity!

I think the 170L tank replaces the existing tank by their description. Without doing the liters to gallons conversion that is around 50-gallons! And you don't need two filler necks, two pumps, etc.

On the `03s and up, the charcoal cannister and plumbing has been relocated to above the spare. Anyone know if other countries have this? I'm just wondering if any of the aftermarket subtanks take this into account for fitting.

Thanks,

I have a 160l tank that resides where the spare tire is. It is a lot of weight BUT I think its worth it, we were just in Death Valley and gas there was $3.00 per gallon (super unleaded) and I had enough gas for the 4 days we were there and not have to carry any jerry cans.

Around town I usually don't fill it up. Only when we are going to go out of town. Crossing Highway 50 from Reno area, it helps as well since there are few towns there and we don't have to worry about gas prices.

Anyway, let me know if anyone else have any questions. It is a simple transfer pump that goes into the stock gas tank. I had them weld a 2nd bottom to it as a built in skid plate, for $50 AUS I thought it was worth it. :-)

Amando,
Can you provide your source information for your aux tank and all the related hardware? This is exactly what I want to add to my '99 100.

How was Death Valley? We have heard it is really spectacular right now after all the rain/snow. Hopefully we will be able to get down there in the next couple weeks.

I recently ordered the 160L USA Spec Aux Tank for the 100. The contact person at LRA is Jess Pearson. She is real helpful. Her email is admin@longrangeautomotive.com.au .

The kit is $950AUS + shipping and includes everything needed. This is with the Amando recommended "reinforced bottom". I ordered it on 3/11/05 and they sent me an email indicating that it should ship out ~4/08/05. Not bad considering it is a custom order.

If you need any more info PM me.

After I came back from the Death Valley Trip with Water & Gas (plastic) Jerry Cans on the roof rack, I was stunned to find the truck paint AND primer all rubbed out, leaving bare metal surface in several spots. It was from the constant vibration during the DV trip.
My roof rack still have the rack stripes on the roof but the bottom of plastic Jerry cans somehow touch the paint when it is tied down tight. So it would be nice to have a secondary gas tank like Amando's.

Cheers,

spressomon,

Below are some links from our Death Valley trip. None of them are mine but some other friends that were on the same trip and we had a fantastic time. Also Snook is selling a DVD movie (his wife is taking the proceeds for all the yard work he missed preparing the video, the money will be used for another handyman to get Snook out of the dog house). ANyway, enjoy the video.

Back to the aux tank, just like cruiser99 said "I can't live with out mine". I second him on that. Also other than the obvious, 2 things you run out of and that stresses people out the most when they are wheeling/exploring is gas and water. This product can get fix one of those. :-)

PS
Death Valley was stunning!
