My 80 came with 265/70/r17’s with some ugly aftermarket wheels. I am going to reuse the tires for now, but think I will eventually move to 285/70/r17’s (maybe 285/75/r17 but they seem to be much more limited ). Anyway, seems I need something with and offset around +10 to - 10, and 0 seems like it will work fine. Probably need a 17”x 8” wheel? Anyone have recommendations ? I want either black or a gunmetal type darker gray. Just looking for a basic design with cut outs and not break the bank. Thanks in advance.

Get the fj cruiser Steelies I believe you can still get them from the dealer. I found some local on marketplace.

I have a 2” lift so unsure on that. Someone will chime in.

I thought the FJ steelies require a spacer to work? I think you can get some wheels like that example of the pro comp steelie you have posted with the offset you want in the lug pattern and hub size of 106mm.

In my experience factory fj cruiser steelies "fit" without a spacer but are more tucked under than the stock aluminum wheels.
They look better with a 1.5-2" spacer

8” wide with 0 offset will match the stock rims and is perfect for the tire size you've mentioned. If you think you might go with bigger tires in the future, more negative offset (up to -12) will help to accomodate that. At your desired tire size, you could get away with +6, but you'll want spacers with any more positive offset than that. For what you described, I'd recommend 0 or -6.

I have a set of Vision Soft 8 steelies on mine. They are 16x8, 0 offset I believe. Whenever I go up to 37s I think I’ll probably go with the same wheels in 17in.

I would prefer -12 just was afraid that they might bump front fender well/bumper or rear fender well? Thoughts ?

Here is my stock height FZJ80 with 17-inch FJ wheels, 1.5 spacers, and 285/75R17 (33 inch) Yokohama Geolandar MTs. It drives great. Does not rub at all.

Looks awesome - do you know what that makes your final offset ?
I’m not sure of the exact measurement. According to Google, the positive offset of FJ Cruiser steel wheels is about 15–20 mm. With a +20mm wheel and a 1.5-inch spacer, the effective offset becomes approximately -18mm, pushing the wheel further out from the vehicle.

-12 would be fine. If you went with a wider (12.5"/315mm) tire you might need to do some very minor trimming on the rear fender flares, but that shouldn't be an issue with 285 or 295mm tires.
