Apparently next BOD meeting is 12/17. We need our club to be represented at the meetings. They should be going over Budget for 2010, TLCA possible raffle truck and discussion on that and should be finalizing anyone running for a TLCA BOD position.
Mark Algazy of Marks off road has donated an FJ40 to help the TLCA discussion on rebuilding is ongoing. D'Animal has picked up the truck and the Exec BOD is poised to possibly make a decision on continuing the process of building the truck with chapter participation. Club input is needed, discuss at will let our delegates know your thoughts.

being new to the bod i have been reading along and not saying much....it seems the truck raffle may not come to fruition...a great idea being discussed to death....and then discussed somemore....there is clearly a division amongst the bod....on all issues....i think the raffle could happen if the individual clubs say maybe 5 or 10 of them took on a portion of the truck to build....and allow it to happen with one person handling the scheduling of the work and moving the vehicle...bod has turned this into an insurance discussion at this point...along with the tlca not having money to contribute.....frankly i am not sure how to handle involvement with the bod...it is frustrating at best....i will try to keep the club advised

at this point it seems a 3 hour meeting would be short!...i receive a minimum of 15 emails a day regarding the raffle...changing the name of the organization...and lately the real cool deal to renew membership.....i just dont see how this organization has run this long with all the division in the bod i dont see how anything gets done....i guess you just have to pound away until enough people see it from your side or get tired of fighting with you...it seems a smaller governing group might make things a little more managable

And they said you were slow. Didnt take you long to see this trend.

i really like the raffle truck idea...the naysayers seem to be those that have never had an old 40 and built it back to its original or somewhat original form....i really think the raffle could and would generate some much needed funds for tlca....changing the name of the organization...why?...what are the benifits?....i personally am not a member of tlca because it is a landcruiser club...i am a member because of the people associated with landcruisers of all kinds...minis too....trails....yea i read it but dont wait at the mail box for it......seems there are just tooooooo many cooks in the kitchen....raffle truck...we have a fella that has stepped up to head the project...tell him to go get it done and leave him alone...he should report monthly and that is that...we certainly have some legal eagles in our membership that could disclaimer everyone in to the clear should something go bad...but come on we are cruiser folks...we can figure it out...too much talk...too little action...just my 2 cents

The most important thing is just to be present on calls so that there is enough reps to vote if we need to. Most of the conversations work themselves out. There is a lot of arguing and back and forth. It is very difficult to discuss thing when some folks are new and some have heard many of the same arguments over and over. I just try and sort out what I hear and offer up what is needed to my club for their opinion.

I am like you and the name change. Why would we want to muddy our presence. Leave the name alone and lets build up value for our chapters and they will bring in the new members.

kirk...pm jenn...metal spice on mud and have her put you in the loop....access to the bod section on mud as well as the email list...hold on to your hat once this happens....your eyes will bleed trying to read all the information....eric....how much of the information that is exchanged between bod members can be shared with the club?.....all of it?....not like an executive session is it?.....i would love some input from tac members on the issues currently being discussed but how the heck can i summarize the goings on in a short post?...any input from you guys and gals will be appreciated....

Just my 2 cents worth. Unless the discussions go on for a month I dont bother telling Green Country Cruisers. There are lots of wild directions discussed and very little done to follow along with any one idea. For any kind of action, they have to wait and bring it up at a monthly meeting. Those are the ones that I forward out to the members. Most of the ideas get lost in the shuffle. Just sit back and listen for a while. I there is something out there that you really feel strongly about then speak up, but you will kill yourself if you try and pass all the info on.

Example right now is wait an see what happens with the raffle truck on thursday call. If they want to proceed then bring up the info to the club. If it just gets shuffled aside then dont worry about it.

I also try and do a small recap of the monthly meeting. Sometimes one or two lines.

From someone who doesn't own a Land Cruiser and never has, "Please don't change the name!" This necessity to be all inclusive in the name is is adolescent, and won't encourage the masses to join a "TA" club unless they mistake it for T&A :hillbilly:

I joined TLCA because of its roots in history, and I respect that, as should others. Getting a fancy magazine was a bonus, but not why I joined. Getting stickers with a plaque and membership card every year, access to Toyota only offroad events, discounts from vendors, and partnerships with BRC?! Come on, how much more catering do people need to convince them, and we haven't even touched on the friendships, support and resources of one of the oldest "car club/off road organization" available.

The truck raffle is a great idea. My only concerns when I first heard about it;

1. We're just coming off the GA Cruisers FJ62 raffle

2. How are clubs pitching in? At first there was talk about it being in one guy's shop and everyone goes there to work on it. Sorry, but I'd be a little freaked out if all these people were coming into my place of business, using my tools, etc. Logistically, this would be a nighmare.

3. If it's being trucked all over the country for people to work on, are there people lined up to transport it at no cost? What if there's an accident en route? This would be devastating.

4. Do these fundraisers increase enough revenue to offset all the costs and offer a substantial profit that meets the end goal, and what is the end goal? I don't want to know what that formula looks like.

5. I'm so glad that dedicated members like Marc, Chris, Eric, Rob, Thad, and all the others are in the loop while us general members enjoy the fruits of the harvest, and get to attend events.:D

If anyone else is going to the TX Jamboree in Jan, let me know.

Marc, feel free to share whatever you feel is pertinent. I know there will be a lot of information coming at you fast.
I for one see the raffle truck as an opportunity to bring some much needed teamwork to the TLCA. But a decision will need to be made one way or another. You could share your views on the pro's and cons and see how much support the club would generate. I would be more than willing to assist in whatever section of the project you think the club could help with. I'm sure Chris (not speaking for him but I can coax) would help as well.
Either way it can be a TLCA and TAC team building experience.

i like the truck idea...tac could pick or be assigned a section to build and have a team leader...i really believe we could mudship the thing around the country....let tlca insure the dude and go...i have a shop available....i know others in the club that are perhaps more centrally located do also....right rob???....i just hope we can get past the bickering(sp) and move forward

While you're dreaming, what else would you like? :D Seriously, I've been on the BOD for 10+ years & honestly, there has never been this much bickering, finger pointing, name calling ,etc. 3 hour meetings are insufferable - hell, anything over 1 hour is insufferable. Thank God we all can mute our lines & kinda go do other things while people are "discussing" things.

You can share however much info you feel is necessary with the club. I'm like Thad, when I was a delegate, I told my club very little until we had realistic ideas on the table & most of the preliminary stuff was over. All you generally need to keep in mind is that in order for you to vote accurately as TAC's rep, TAC needs to know what needs to be voted on. While I can certainly help you put things together for the chapter, I can't report as the delegate, but I can help you if you need it. :)

As a former delegate, I can safely say I passed on almost nothing to the club. Why would our club want to listen to nothing but TLCA dirty laundry?

<I've inserted and deleted this paragraph more times than I count - I'll just keep the thoughts in my head>

My $0.02.

the tlca stuff is crazy....lets take bids on publishing trails...what????...i would think the publishing company is doing a great job...my trails always looks great....this bod stuff is nuts...let me ask this of the tac membership....is there anything you guys and gals are having a problem with?...as far as tlca goes?...anything you want to see changed?...let me know if you have something and i will attempt to address it...please note i say attempt...i think some of these folks just like to here themselves talk...oh wait i didnt just say that....it reminds me of when i served on city council....lots of talk no action!...i think i have come to the conclusion that i will attend the phone calls...listen...and let TAC carry on....carry on friends...:D

Great discussion...keep it up! You folks have it right...we need ACTION!

Some facts:
We've cut expenses, but not increased income.
We've cut trails, but not made plans to bring it's full content back to the mag.

We need TAC on these calls.

IMHO this organization should run itself with little to no interference or issues.

Thanks!

The TLCA is going through an identity crisis, and has been for some time. What tangibles are actually provided to its members?

IMO, I expect a great magazine and support of events throughout the country. The main aspect of the support is communication/advertising of the events and local clubs, and event insurance where needed. That's it. I don't think TLCA should put on events as I think local clubs can do it just fine. TAC put on our first event with about $500 in the bank and drew nearly 60 rigs.

Am I missing something here? If so, let me know. If not, any BOD discussions that aren't related to or in support of these "primary objectives" is wasted time.

I'm opinionated on the subject, but I've also seen how the bickering at the BOD level has jaded some people's view of the very hobby/sport we enjoy.

Let's go wheeling.

Amen Chris!...we have good people in key positions in the tlca....now let them alone and let them do their jobs!....check in on them once a month....if they need anything in the meantime have em call us....TAC will be fine with or without the TLCA....like Chris says...let go wheelin!

That line alone, to me is very evident. The last trails magazine has a non Land Cruiser on the front cover. That's a basic thing. It's an awesome truck, and awesome guy, but why is it on the TLCA magazine......
