Here is a shot after the initial clean up. SHe looked pretty good, but a real resto would have been cost prohibitive. The triples are not as sought after as the bonnies or tigers, and the resale is not as good. I was going back and forth on a resto or a chop, and my wife bought me a bolt on hardtail for christmas after hounding my friends on what would be cool. That solved that- and my wife rocks.
The second shot is with the hardtail mocked up and the factory stuff pulled. Ebayed some factory stuff, had a buyer contact me, who is a restorer of these bikes, and he bought everything else, sight unseen. That financed the rest of the build. I really have very little into the bike as she sits, and almost all parts on it were traded or fabbed. The money goes into things like the master cyl rebuild with a new stainless master($100!), and things like that. Triumph parts are not cheap. The motor ran well when I pulled it, so I am hoping to not have to rebuild it.
I am a marginal welder at best, so I had a friend (Poor Wally) weld up the hardtail after we got it square, and started from there. It is a bolt on section, but the power the triple puts out is much more than the bonnie, so for safety we welded her on. It is permanent now.
Thanks to wildman on this board, the seat bracket got done, and I used his plasma cutter to cut the rough shape for my plate mount. Another friend of mine was there for the pickup of the bike, the removal of the factory junk, and the reassembly of the motor. Thanks to Mike.
I have a header kit that I traded junk for (retail of $500!) but I wouldl ike to do a scrambler style pipe if I get ambitious. 3 Pipes make it a bit harder.
Thanks for the nice words about the bike. It is my real build, and is quite the learning experience.
