Sounds like somebody needs to replace their Luvs with a fresh one! :flipoff2:

And my 2wd 1ton ran great till the Fuel pump shiate the bed, did sweet burnouts too! :redneck:

Here is a shot after the initial clean up. SHe looked pretty good, but a real resto would have been cost prohibitive. The triples are not as sought after as the bonnies or tigers, and the resale is not as good. I was going back and forth on a resto or a chop, and my wife bought me a bolt on hardtail for christmas after hounding my friends on what would be cool. That solved that- and my wife rocks.

The second shot is with the hardtail mocked up and the factory stuff pulled. Ebayed some factory stuff, had a buyer contact me, who is a restorer of these bikes, and he bought everything else, sight unseen. That financed the rest of the build. I really have very little into the bike as she sits, and almost all parts on it were traded or fabbed. The money goes into things like the master cyl rebuild with a new stainless master($100!), and things like that. Triumph parts are not cheap. The motor ran well when I pulled it, so I am hoping to not have to rebuild it.

I am a marginal welder at best, so I had a friend (Poor Wally) weld up the hardtail after we got it square, and started from there. It is a bolt on section, but the power the triple puts out is much more than the bonnie, so for safety we welded her on. It is permanent now.

Thanks to wildman on this board, the seat bracket got done, and I used his plasma cutter to cut the rough shape for my plate mount. Another friend of mine was there for the pickup of the bike, the removal of the factory junk, and the reassembly of the motor. Thanks to Mike.

I have a header kit that I traded junk for (retail of $500!) but I wouldl ike to do a scrambler style pipe if I get ambitious. 3 Pipes make it a bit harder.

Thanks for the nice words about the bike. It is my real build, and is quite the learning experience.

should I move this over to general chit chat? It seems to have taken on a new life.

i don't know... chat might be good and it could be bad.

what's ther deal with the thing your wife got you. A bolt on hard tail.. is that the whole frame? or just the rear part.

http://www.choppahead.com/set.html?index.html

This is a pic of a +6" hardtail. I went with a +4, as I was going for a more retro look, not a real long bike. The +6 is really cool, look at the build there. I just did not need that much.

I think mine is +4 (to the rear axle) with a 3" drop.

Take off the rear triangle and seat mount, make sure it is square, and bolt her on. It is recommended to weld too, but it is optional.

thanks. Did younotice the fj40 headlight bucket mounts? They are 2F pushrods. :)

Don't move it. Chat will fill this thread up with douchebags telling you you're a horrible person for owning and English bike because you don't buy american, Churchill was gay, and Tony Blair is a pussy.

And if I hear the reply "Meh" again I'm going to ruin my huggies and start crying.

Rant over. Please keep it in paint where it's safe.;)

I would like to see a classic bike thread though... I whack it to Walneck's on a reguar basis. Wish I had the mechanical ability and patience.

Rabid,
Triumphs are the "Classic english bike" I love them they need patience and thought, A triple is a great bike they howl going down the road I would like to own one someday. Your going to have a blast with it. check out my sig line.

thanks. I have yet to ride this one more than 10 feet, so I will let you know. I have a line on a complete bonnie, but want to finish this one first. Ran into a huge snag yesterday, the chain hits not only the fender, bit the tire. Crap. The tire is centered on the frame (less than 1/8 th offset) but the wheel will have to be relaced offset by at least 1/4" and I will have to make spacers for the wheel.

update.

Header mocked up, still not sure if I am going to run the three into one muffler, it seems too bulky, but I h8drag pipes. Not sure yet.

Other pic is of the rear fender clearenced for the chain. Oh well. The rear wheel was re dished for offset. about 1/4 to 1/2". Pray for no funky handling.

looks good. That cut on the fender is not that bad. Fillet the angles a little and it will look like it was done on purpose.

First bike I ever owed - or rode - was a '73 Triumph Trident 750cc.That baby moved!!Keeping the three carbs and the three sets of points set up right can be a pain but it's worth the effort.
Not sure if they came from the factory with three into two exhaust but mine had a three into one by the time I got it.Looked pretty good.Unfortunately any pics are as long gone as the bike.
Great work on your project.Nice to see some of the old iron still on the road.

if you don't think it's paint anymore, you could get it moved to OT vehicle tech, but whatever.

if you are looking for strange brit bike parts, you might want to look at or talk to British Cycle Supply, they are about a minute and a half from my folks' place in nova scotia, and it they have a location in jersey now too.
their website is http://www.britcycle.com/ and it looks like it has all kinds of potentially useful info
nice bike:beer:

Thanks. Already ordered a bunch o crap from them. :)

a few updated pics. Originally ran the oil lines in copper, but it kinks too easilly and I did not trust it. A brit bike does not need any help in the oil leakage/starvation area. got the exhaust on, but will probably lose the megaphone muffler in favor of a universal 11" old school one like on a royal enfield. Rear fender is finished and on, I still have yet to wire it, or figure out what I am going to do with the coils. Tough to hide three full size coils- I think I am going to use harley mini coils under the tank, but I am not sure yet.
