I just took my '99 with 370,000 miles to the dealer for a boot replacement on the right front axle (I replaced the left last year). Just got a call telling me that the axle has lots of play and needs to be replaced- price? unknown but for sure lots. I thought these axles were pretty much bullet-proof and if not abused (mine never has been) they last close to forever. I've maintained this thing carefully but are now am looking at a drive from Massachusetts back to Phoenix so I'm concerned.
Any advice from someone who knows? Thanks in advance.
Ned

370K is a lot of use if it's an original CV. Any CV is prone to wearing out, after than many miles on a full time 4WD. Since you are skeptical, would it be possible for the dealer to show you the play? Replacement shouldn't cost that much, I wouldn't think. Definitely go with OEM parts.

Thanks guys. Yes, they are original, guess I should replace them. Maybe I should let them do the left side too, as it clunks a little. I don't need an issue in the middle of New Mexico! The car (truck) is otherwise mint, except for faded paint, but it takes maintenance to keep it that way.
Thanks again, Ned
