100 Series Factory Fender Flares

Hello Everyone.
I'm looking for a nice 100 series, prior to 2003 m/y. Some of the vehicles I see online have factor fender flares and some do not. Was this an option or a state specific thing? (I thought I read somewhere Texas needed these flares to meet DOT regs for tire width, but now I can't seem to find it.) Why do some have them and some do not?

By "fender flares", do you mean like these?

South East Toyota (distributor) put them on all/most Land Cruisers. I think the plan was two fold:
1. Make the truck look fancy
2. Permanently scratch the paint.

Most guys take them off as soon as they get home with their new 100... fingers crossed the scratches aren't too bad

This was a Southern Toyota Distributer "option". They were made by Bushwacker.

Most of the IH8MUD crowd doesn't care for them.

Yea sir! Those are what I'm referring to. Yea, i dont care for them too much either. Just didnt seem to be a common reason why they were on some trucks and not on others

They were just another reason to up the price. The return must have been over a 200% markup.

Thanks for the replies gents. I'm Surprised how much Bushwacker sells them for. Pretty pricy.
