I have to replace my pan because of rusting bolts which caused the rim to rust in a spot, causing a leak. Obviously, a dipstick would have been nice to monitor level (and occasionally topping up) until I get around to replacing the pan (which will be done shortly).
It's not like these transmissions can live on the same fluid forever, so why they decided to leave out the dipstick is beyond me. Maybe another example of the general "dumbing down" of cars, leaving less information in the hands of a conscientious owner, and making him more dependent on the dealer to monitor the condition of his vehicle.
One thing I did almost immediately on my GX is remove the stupid plastic covers in the engine bay (I left the one on the engine for looks), so I can readily see see and access the various components.
