My front pipe on my 1989 toyota [3.0V6 4X4] truck is rusting away at the O2 sensor port. Does this truck have to have it or can I just do away with it and put a straight pipe there?

Just put a new exhaust system from this port all the way out the back and of course it is rusting out there. The replacement pipe is $129 PLUS a O2 sensor woul probably be in order....

Was told some would run fine without it. Is this a myth or truth?

Thanks in advance!

Who did the exhaust work from that point on back? I am surprised that it was not replaced at that time.

Either way, good idea not to mess with the 02 sensors.

I assume this is the sensor after the cat converter correct? If so, it makes less of a difference BUT still reports back to the ECM and will cause CEL issues and codes/performance issues.

When people just say take it off and dont worry about it, it makes sense because there is not a catastrophic failure. However, you remove an important piece of the fuel management circuit and that, in my opinion, is never a good thing. IF your cat converter is failing, that is the sensor to speak up. And all sorts of expensive things can happen if you are running a failed cat converter.

Just my .02

If you disconnect the O2, your truck will run Rich, and not only will the MPG's suffer, so does the engine as the oil gets saturated with fuel, lubrication fails, and the engine will wear out prematurely.

The O2 is the heart and soul of the EFI ECU's ability to set the A/F ratio correctly.

If you have basic fab skills, IE can weld with a mig, it's very easy to make a new pipe, and fab in an O2 bung.

Anyone who advises to delete the O2 is not giving good advice, be wary.
