metal brake line

I'm wondering... shouldn't there be a rubber hose connecting the metal brake line that goes from the LSPV on the frame to the rear brake coupler which is on the axle? I would expect there to be a constant clanking when the axle goes up/down with the suspension? Thanks in advance.
