I just bought a 89 FJ62 two days ago with 30k miles! Sorry, no pics yet, I have not picked it up yet. It is dark blue and is completely stock. It was owned by an elderly couple, they were the first owners. They hardly drove it and thats why it has about 30k on it. Interior is mint, the outside is very clean too, it has a very very small rust spot which is only surface near the rear wheel well. They just got the rear solid brake lines replaced, the e-brake line was replaced and the cap, rotor, plugs and wires replaced, also a new battery was installed. The tires are 1 month old. The fuel filter is also new.
My main concern is with its age, what should I be concerned about? I want to keep it fairly stock for now and use as a weekend driver. What should I be replacing as far as fluids, etc? The oil was changed on it regularly and the engine runs fine. With the age, although very low miles, what should I be concerned about?

Drain the transmission fluid and fill it with some good synthetic.

Sounds like a nice one. Post some pictures.

With really low miles comes the possability that the seals and gaskets did not see oil and lubrication as often as they should have. That means for the first few months you should watch out for leaks.

Nice score... please post some pics when you get a chance.

where should i expect leaks from?
should i test the tranny fluid first to see if its going to be safe to change it? i know sometimes if you change it, it can fail, an unexplained mystery. or does that only apply to high mileage trannies?

i have some pics but they are hard copies, ill try to find a scanner.

Welcome to sixty's world. :)
common oil leak points on 3F motor are timing cover gasket, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket and rear main seal.
I don't know about A440F auto tranny but you must check leak of t-case.
Anyway, congratulation again getting a good cruiser !

Oh, Min Seok

i will definitely check those gaskets out this weekend when i pick it up. although i did go over it thoroughly and didnt see any leaks.

That's great!! Congrats, now what did you get it for, how much?
