O.K. all, not trying to beat a dead horse, i know i started the other thread about when will your 80 wear out. I was thinking this could be a good thread for lurkers or newbies who are curious to see, with a short and to the point answer on how many miles we have on our trucks and if we have had any major problems along the way. Figured it would help show just how well built a cruiser is. I would consider major problems: head gasket, engine rebuild, broken transmission, broken transfer case.....ect. Oh, one other thing, post the mileage when you purchased it.

I'll start.

current miles: 163,000
miles when purchased: 101,000

Other than preventative maintenance,

Problems: New front rotors.
Replace front pinion seal

Haha i love it no problems huh?! Well mine has 90,000 miles and I bought it this past fall. The only really problem I have had is with the birfields and having to rebuild the front axle. But no others. That is probably because of the low miles and how new it is to me. But knowing me it will have a lot more problems cause I go offroading and get stuck often. BAD! Bailey can vouch for me. Haha!

current mileage: 137,500
miles when purchased: 136,750

Problems / Major Maintenance:

- completed
* birfield / front axle service
* starter contacts
* missing u-joint zerk
* replaced damaged trunion bearing

- pending
* leaky valve cover gasket
* leak near oil cooler
* sunroof rattle
* rust on hatch
* replace u-joint(s)
* squeaky steering wheel
* I'm *really* hoping that the small amount of oil between the engine and trans is from the valve cover not the rear main

That's about it so far. ;)

155K miles
Purchased with 72K miles, May 1998.

VAF repair due to my own stupidity.
Engine rebuild @ 146K miles.
Seat seam repair @ 155K miles.
Everything else is routine or preventative maintenance (many axle seals & brake pads, rotorsx4, rebuilt master cyl & calipers, rebuilt PS pump, new rad, all new hoses, R134a conversion w/reman compressor, filters & belts, etc.)

I think we should add here to lurkers taht robbie wheels the ever living crappola out of his rig.

I was going to ask this same question. Mine has 159k currently.
A neighbor friend bought a used 1997 Tahoe. He is much older and dosen't have a computer, so I said I would check on any problems a 97 might have, bla bla bla. I went on the best web site I could find chevytalk.com to get any information on Tahoe's. Many people consider the Tahoe on the same
level as the Landcruiser. Besides being a tough website to search, you have to register with the site to search. There was considerable amount of chatter about tranmission's, electrical problems etc.
Seems this site talks more about adding things to a rig with 100 plus miles then replacing tranny's...
IMOP...

So doyle, you have 159,000 currently, bought it with ????? and have fixed ?????

Not trying to be rude, just want this to be short and to the point, not chatty.

Ops sorry. Just installed the Ctr diff lock switch. Did the 7 pin mod. new radiator at 133k.
Exhaust and ft end repack next.
Many plans for mods...

I guess I have watched too many of the crocidile hunter episodes on tv, they seem to take cruisers every where, sort of like me. I like seeing places and the crusier goes places. besides the truck like it and keeps coming back for more.
I only gave up the 94 for economic reasons, there are a few times when you give a vechicle back to the bank when it does not hurt you that much (not any more than you are hurting).
I did forget to mention that I had c-pilar crack developing in the body, I also have one on the 93. I am seeing more and I am seeing more trucks with them on non wheeled trucks as well. some thing to look for on 91-94 trucks. later robbie

We have 2 97 LX 450s.
Hers: bone stock
Purchased 12/30/2003 with 68k miles. Currently with 74k miles.
Negotiated 60k servicing when purchased.
- Replaced front brake pads
- A/C belt.

Mine: has stuff on it
Purchased 01/05/2002 with 51k miles. Currently 109k miles.
Certified Pre-owned vehicle. Came with 3 year/100k mile warranty which covered every non-wear part repair bumper to bumper (so, some of the stuff was done only because Lexus was paying for it)
- Windshield washer dirverter replaced 2 times (first replacement part was bad).
- Rear driveshaft retubed (my fault for damaging on off-road trip)
- EGR valve (MIL came on during my test drive)
- Antenna motor/cable replaced
- Cruise control sensors replaced.
- Cruise control control stalk (on steering colum) replaced as part of the cruise control sensor replacement.
- Turn signal stalk replaced (mistake by Lexus when diagnosing washer diverter problem -- they thought problem was in the controls at the stalk)
- Power steering pump -- was groaning alot -- replaced under warranty
- Starter - replaced under warranty (contacts were going bad)
- Clock spring under steering wheel -- wheel was clicking on turns.
- Rotors and pads on all corners.

One thing I learned about how Lexus handles warranty repairs is that they'll go a bit overboard when replacing parts. They'll order/replace more than what might be necessary to insure they've covered all their bases on the first try. I think they're going for overall customer satisfaction -- having people think they "fixed it all on the first try" rather than having people come back time after time. While this is cool if they're footing the bill, I know I wouldn't want to have to pay for their piece of mind.

80 cool web site has them. But it is real easy to see, open the rear doors, just above the latch on the pilar you can see some cracks more towards the outside of the pilar. Usually some slight rust around the crack. later robbie

No problems ever, fully serviced from dealer from orginal owner,

maintenance, breaks, battery...but just lately rear diff lock is sticky...overall great.

'97 LX450, purchased 6/02 with 35k miles. Now at 66k miles. Repair work so far (all under CPO warranty):

1. Clogged radiator replaced with new at 50k (my fault for not getting a complete flush before switching from green to red)
2. Birf job at 50k (sounds early to me, but Lexus said "front end is leaking", front diff fluid was contaminated and did a birf job)
3. Windshield washer diverter
4. Oil leak (replaced oil pan gasket)
