Greetings all:

I just bought my first LC - 1994, lockers, 86,000 miles - and have a quick question for the group.

My driver's side window has been getting progressively slower until yesterday it finally wouldn't raise without being pulled up by hand. I did a search and saw that several people have lubricated the window tracks with marine grease and had success. However, the dealer tells me that the rubber channel is "warped" and will require replacement - to the tune of $250.

Does this seem right to you? Is this something I can do myself? (My mechanical skills are limited although I do possess opposable thumbs.) Where can I get the part? (perhaps the famous Cruiserdan?)

Thanks to all for your input. This is a great forum and I read it with enjoyment.

If it is the rubber seal that the window slides up and down in, it is an easy fix.

1. Get the part.
2. Yank out the old one.
3. Soak the new one in soapy water to get it nice and slick.
4. Manhandle it into the door.
5. Kick back and enjoy a chocolate milk.

Rogue,
people outside of happy valley do not equate a #6 to a chocolate milk. just an FYI>
as to the window track Rogue is half right. I would try to lubricate the actual rubber in the steel track before I droppe $250 to have the stealer do it. as a general rule stealer mechanics are of two schools those who fix things by repairing them and those who throw parts at problems because they do not know what they are doing. sounds like you got the later.

I use air tool oil on the window chanel instead of grease, it works great.

But, if it really is warped- then air tool oil will not work.

Thanks for the FYI. I was unaware most people preferred plain milk. Who would have thought? ::)

Hi Novacat
Congrats on joining the TLC club. I am fairly new here as well, but I have R&R'd the windows channels.
The rubber around the window goes down the sides into the door. You can pull the thing out from the top (I pulled the door panels off, but I don't think it's manditory) you can spray some WD40 (with the little straw) to get it to slide on the glass. Soak it in warm water w/dish soap for 30 min +/-. They soften up like new. You will need to clean the gummy crud (technical term) off the inside of the groove (that's why they won't go up & down). I then wiped them down with armoral and good as new. They aren't glued in place, they just sit in the door frame.
Happy Cruising!

Welcome aboard from another newbie. I have a '97 LX 450 that has two bad channels. My rear driver door was missing about half and my driver door channel is bent/warped just above the sill and is creating lots of wind noise.

I bought (before I found this site, sorry Dan) both channels from a local stealer for about $130 total. I put the rear one in myself and I have  skills. The old one came out easily. I sprayed the new one with silicone and attempted to slide it down the channel. I was able to get all of it in except the last 4 inches or so on both the front and back of the window. I had to take the door panel off, peel back the waterproofing plastic and actually take the window completely off the track to be able to pull the rubber guide all the way down. I'm sure I am the exception to the rule cause very little goes right when I try something that sounds simple.

I have yet to tackle the front door. I will try the soapy water trick this time as Rogue mentioned and hope it goes smoother and take less time. I would definitely do it yourself. My preference is a cold Labatt's  when I'm done. Takes the edge off my mechanical ineptitude. Good luck!
