I've been looking at this 8274, owner has been saying what good shape it's in. Claims it's not been used at all, "was only on a rig for a few weeks".

Obviously it is on a home made reciever mount, Obviously it is green from being exposed to moisture. The back of the selenoid pack is rusty looking, it Looks like the cable is in good condition except it is green..

I asked for a photo and this is what I got..no front side photo, he does not want to fool around with a front side photo (reason enough to forgetaboutit..but he's a old guy and is pissed nobody has snatched up his "perfect winch")...

Anyway do any of you guys see anything just jumping out at ya that is wrong with it...He is asking $600, it does not have a roller fairlead..

I've emailed for a front side photo..don't thik I'll get it cause I think he thinks he'll only sell it for $600, I'm thinking $500 if that.

It is 160 miles to where the winch is so I'm not gonna drop by and check on it with out spending some big ga$ money...

Just thought I'd see what people think..

So I could not get the @#**!! thing to shrink down small enough to post up..you gotta go to the link below to see it:

Tell me where its located and ill check it out for you! ;)

Im not an expert, but I have seen much worse looking 8274's go for more $$$.

If the thing works properly, I think you have yourself a good buy!

oh yeah, it's out west of here..down that side road..over near that big pasture where that guy lost his dog that time..;)

here's the pic

It looks like it is in decent shape. It has the original battery cables and cable boot on it. It is pretty darn old, it is definately not an 8274-50 which is sell for $1,100 new today. Mine was bought new in 76 and looks exactly the same. it has the same old style starter motor on it.

a few weeks? like several hundreds...?

That's an old one for sure with the round clutch handle. It doesn't look bad. FOr $400 it would be a steal.

Those were a tough few weeks.

For the price it sounds like a deal, if it works.
If the guy was sketchy about the "few weeks" thing how far can you trust anything else he says?

Maybe rig it up with some jumper cables or something and test it?

So how old? 80s?...this guy does not remember when he got it..says it's hardly been used yada yada ..I realy thought from what he said that it'd be a lot cleaner. I also new it was not a 8274-50 but did not think it was any older (from the indictions the old guy gave me) than a early 90 model..I think the "dash50" came out in mid 90s?

and nukemelon, how the hell did you post it?

Mine has a round clutch handle and was made in 1990. The one you are looking at also has the old style solenoid box. It doesn't really matter-these winches can be rehabbed and made better than new.

I would not offer above $500, but that's just me. Definitely hook it up, because if the solenoid pack is bad, you are looking at $200 or so for a new one.

MORE photos of the Front Side of the subject 8274

Here is the link to photos of the FRONT SIDE of the winch.

I did not think he was gonna re-contact me with more photos. but he did, the serial #76445, I'm gonna call Warn Monday to see when the thing was made. Looks pretty good on the front side. Cable looks great. I'm goning to tell him to keep the Hause fairlead and the portable mount. I figure he'll get religion and sell it at a better price or keep it and sell it for less. (OR tell me to kiss his ass). A Warn dealer told me today that the late 70 early 80 models had a motor that if bad could not be rebuilt...Of course Monday Warn will tell me what's up with this one. but in the mean time can you guys tell me anything more about the winch from the photos?

Also one of you STAR folks can post it up if you want..I gotta buy me a star..

U must find out if this winch will "pwr in" & "pwr out". If it has a hand/cable brake its worthless.

...

looks identical to mine (s/n 93126) and mine powers in/out. And it has winched a lot of rigs. A great winch imho.

I've not run it yet, but yes it powers in and out. I think it was manufactored in the late 80's. It is 160 miles from here, After I get some more info and talk the guy down on $$, I'll go gamble and test it and bring it home if it pans out. I'm gonna offer $400 w/o the fairlead and mount. and see what happens.
