What is the difference between FJ45 and FJ45LV? Long bed?

Which is more rare? thus has more value?

FJ45-1 is plain, bedless, backless truck: trayback, I guess.

FJ45 P is the original, short bed pickup, which was made first as a fixed top, then as a removable top.

FJ45 V is the long-wheel base station wagon

FJ45 P (B) is the long-wheel based pickup with removable top.

FJ45-4 is the chassis with windshield designed as a firetruck base.

The "L" designation is for Left hand drive versions, which we only saw for P, V, and P (B).

At least for the 1960s.

FJ45LV is the 4 door wagon that was only produced for a few years during the 60's. I believe from 63-67? 104" wheel base.

FJ45LP is the short bed pickup, It came in two different configurations, a removeable and a non-removeable hard top. It actually has the same frame dimensions as the FJ45LV but just different body mounts. The FJ45LP was produced for a few years in the 60's

FJ45LPB is the long bed pickup. All have removeable tops. These ran during the entire run of the 40 series, even up to 1986. 116" wheelbase

FJ45 troopie has the same wheel base (116") as the LPB but has a full length body. Basically, an extended version of the FJ40. None were ever brought to US or Canada except in the past few years from abroad. Most are out of Australia, Middle East, or Central/South America.

Also, the rarest is not always the most valuable. I would say in order of rarity they would be:
45LV
45LP (removeable top first, non-removeable top second)
45LPB

The troopie fits in there somewhere. Worldwide, the troopie is not rare, but here in North America it is, and is desirable. 60's era LPB's are fairly rare but later models are all over the world, thus making them about the same as the troopie.

Hope that helps.

As far as rareness and value, I would say that of the 4 models imported into the US during the '60s: P fixed, P removable, P (B) and P V, the FJ45 P with removable top is probably rarest and probably most valued. But that's a matter of opinion. :D And GC is correct: the troopie is yet another version, but was never imported to the US.

So that looks like a FJ45LP? I have a sale agreement based on information given over the phone, so cheap i just couldn't wait and let someone else get it. Even for parts its still cheap lol. Tubs look shot tho, i was told frame is in top shape and it only has 60k miles. Anyhow he will keep it from me until he is back from holidays in a month.

That's an LPB. Simplest way to tell for me at first glance is the presence of hooks on the outside of the bed.

eleblanc, I hope your deposit is refundable if this turns out to be like another 45 we heard about recently. Turned out the frame was badly rusted, which really turns the project from a headache to a nightmare.

Be careful.

If you have the opportunity to get closer, look around, snap some pics, and post up more questions. There are many here who can point out stuff in good photos that you may not notice at first glance, or who may spot something that would require you to follow up. Of course, if you want to throw caution to the wind............

I told the guy and he agreed, if the frame is shot it will be a no go, and he seemed to agreed without problems to refund me. Basicly if the frame is ok and motor, tranny, and tc is working fine i'll take it. Was the one you heard about in Quebec?

the LPB did not run for the entire run of the 40's, 1964 was the 1st year. latter(early 80's) the 45 was changed to the 47 I beleive

in the US, the 45's were sold from 62/3 thru 1967, then droped from the US market. Canada got the 45LPB(the only 45 they really got) in 1974. all 64+ 45 pickups will have removable top

I would rate the non removable top 45 as the least desirable, not to say its not desirable.....

Well give or take a few years. The 45 long bed was available a few years after the FJ40. Is a late model 45 pickup (not 47) still considered a PB? Also, the 40 changed to the 42, did it not, just like the 45 to the 47? Just curious.

According to Owner its a 1978, but i shall get serial in a few days

almost.....rarest(in US) is the fixed window, fixed top......only a handfull of these around, window will not fold its ALL one piece to the cowl.......

compare to the other type of fixed top 45

most rare is removeable top shorty, followed by non removeable top shorty, lv and finally long wheel base.

Troopie - LVKC

Just 4 the records, I was looking at a white FJ45LV KC on a car lot.
It was a 1983 Troopie - with almost zero rust, left hand drive, but was cosmetically, a mess.
Frame was FJ 45335562.
I wish now that I scooped it up - they sell typically for US$2500 and up over here - but most of them are really beat on the interior, and the maintenance was bad .... but amazingly, many are still on the job, literally.

I would rate them in this order with 1 being the rarest:

  1. FJ45-4 - Firetrucks - 60's vintage
  2. FJ45LP - Short wheel base (swb) 45 pickup with a non removable top and a fixed front windshield
  3. FJ45LP - swb 45 pickup with a non removable top and a fold down windshield
  4. FJ45LP - swb 45 pickup with a removable top
  5. FJ45LV - 4 door station wagon
  6. FJ45LPB - lwb 45 pickup

In the U.S. market the non (L) versions that are right hand drive would be rarer but not necessarily more expensive. Even though I rated the firetrucks the rarest, most if not all are in good condition and have their own special market so prices are not comparable to the other 45s. I'll flip the swb 45 pickup with a non removable top and a fold down windshield and the swb 45 pickup with a removable top if someone has any hard numbers on them. It seems I see more removable tops then not.

Hey.......I'd agree with that......but unless a gem and hell of a buy.....its pass on shortbed fixed tops.....and I have......I just dont and will never fit in one.

do you think there are more LV's and LP R/T's? never thought about it before but maybe there are more LV's

so glad your a bigger 45 geek then me :D

Once I hit 200 LVs in the gallery and over 8,800 pics, I decided that LVs weren't so rare. Plus I don't own a swb 45 yet. I am working on a trade for a lwb though.

The 42 didn't replace the 40... it replaced the bj40(b) with a 3b. Both (bj42 and fj40)ran til late 84. The hj47 the same senario. The hj45 with an H was replaced by the hj47 with a 2H. Both the fj45 and hj47 ran concurrently into mid 85...

quick scans of the 45s for reference. I don't think I have any literature with the swb non removable top with the fold down windshield or any literature with the firetrucks. The part that may scare Pimp is the '63 in the top pic might have a white roof.
