I am looking for other folks whom may have installed this dash cap that is made for a 73 up FJ55 on an earlier style pig (look about half way down page.)

My 1970 dash has a center section that drops down in the middle of the dash. This cap does not have this center section but I am wondering if it can be altered to fit my earlier dash. I am trying to avoid having to get the dash redone completely as this will be very expensive. I am looking for something to basically make the dash usable and look somewhat decent. Here are a few threads I posted over in the 55 section but got no love:

Again, I am looking for opinions from pig owners whom may have modified these caps to fit their early style dashes. Pictures would be a big help.

Thanks!

Noah

here's a pic of the dash, you can see the drop down area in the center that houses a landcruiser emblem and the switch for the rear window. the cap doesn't seem to cover this but if it can be trimmed to fit this could work well?

Now that I see a pic of your dash, you could possibly graft the 'drop down section' with the emblem and switch onto the underside of the dash cap. You could use some of the adhesive or emblem adhesive to secure the two together. I am thinking you could just cut your old dash horizontally above the 'plaque' which holds the switch and emblem to allow the cap to be inserted into the cut. Hope this makes sense? I think it can work and for 50$ you won't be worse for the effort in the end IMO.. post pics if you do it in the 55 section so others can see. Good luck!

Does this help?

Cut your old dash where the yellow line is, install the cap, then secure the section you cut to the cap. Will likely require sanding here and there to get a nice fit.

Hey Jeffrey,

Thanks for the insight. I think the best solution may be to just trim the dashcap so the edge runs along the line you drew in the picture. Actually the center section of the dash is fairly nice still and I am thinking I could paint it a bit with some black vinyl paint to match the cap. Hopefully in the end all you will see is a little line running right above that center section where the cap sits atop the dash. I think I will give it a shot. I was quoted $500 to have the dash redone and there is just no way I am spending that. Would still like to hear from others whom might have done this, I can't be the only one! :)
