Well, here is the deal.

If you look at the first picture on this thread...

https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=118830

You will understand why I needed to make a change.

The lift you see in that pic is OME 850 front and 863 rear.

They look great without a load, but with a full Long Ranger, CTT, full Drawer System, Engel 45 (with lots of beer), firewood, etc...you see what happens.

The following pics show the truck with a similar load, after I have put 850J's on the front and OME 4" COMP springs in the rear.

I am very happy with the way it turned out.

Give me some feedback, if you would.

Can't wait to test it out in Death Valley this coming weekend! :bounce:

Looks good, any reason why you didn't go with the 4" comp springs in the front for future proofing?

Thank you.

Because I liked the ride in the front. Smooth sailing through Mexico so I wanted to maintain the ride but get it just a bit higher. With the bumper, winch and dual bats, it sits just right (for me).

Looks great. Shot at Pismo looks like the cruiser is ready for a dump! Post up impressions after DV.

Did you consider airbags first? I'll have to take a hard look at mine with the 2.5" lift heavies and airbags. I don't have the aux tank or roof top tent, but I've got a full drawer and fridge in back. Even when the trailer is attached, I don't think I sag that much.

Thanks!

I think without the tank and tent, you should be okay. You have to realize, with the tank alone, that was 352 extra pounds with a full load and the tent is 110. That just about exceeds the 863's right there. You would probably want the 864's with your load.

I will updated on ride.

It looks really nice and makes sense when loaded down, but how does it ride when empty?

What's the tube on the rack next to the tent? Awning of some sort?

The truck will never really be empty, that is one reason I went this route. The drawers, always loaded, spare parts and camping gear.
Tank, I try to keep as full as possible when traveling. If I take the tent down, I will be puting a cargo rack up there. The fridge and bumper with spare will always be there.

This is not my daily driver so it will usually have all of the goods when I drive it.

I have done some freeway driving and around town since I put it on and it feels pretty good with a standard amount of weight in the back.

The tube-like thing is a fishing rod holder, I use if for rods and my Hawaiian sling, along with some awning poles.

Thanks for the compliment.

An improvement indeed, from the time I seen it.....

Nice job with the cruiser Jeb, white cruisers rule...

What's the difference between the comp rears and 864's?

What's the difference between the comp rears and 864's?

From what I understand, they are 1" taller, under normal circumstances, and a bit stiffer for off road use than the 864's. Don't know all of the details but they were offered to me for a great price and I figured I would give it a shot. I knew the 863's were way off base for my use after my Mexico trip. I was going to try the 864's but that big tank pushed me into the next dimension. I am guessing that with the weight of the actual tank and fuel we are looking at 400+ lbs. right there. We shall see what happens.

The 864 is designed to lift 40mm over stock with a static additional load of 400kg over stock. It would be interesting to compare the rates between the 864 and the 4 inch.

So then, the 864 is a heavier rate and better suited to heavy loads (in general).

I would say yes! :D But if you want the extra height as you can get a 4" and 5" these would be the ticket. If they are anything like other OME springs. the 4" rear will match the 5" front, and 5" rear... is probably a few inches taller than a 6" front.

I don't know what the "more coils" means but they definitely have a lot more coils than the J's.

I have 864 in the rear and 850J + a one inch spacer in the front. I always have couple hundred pounds in the back, a full subtank and a Slee rear bumper and in that trim I still have a rake similar to a stock vehicle.

Dan,

How do you like the ride on the 864?

I considered them but thought the ride of the comps would be a little softer and still give me a good height.

As I said, this is experimental so we will see after my Death Valley trip.

Curious, how do the 864's give you that much height with the j's in the front and a spacer? If I would have put just the j's on my rig up front with the 863's in the back and no load, I think I would have been dumpy in the back. The 863's are supposed to be the same height as the 864's. At least according to the chart.

you have to look at the rated extra weight used when assessing the lift in the typical chart. IOW, they will give different heights at the same load.
