Hi guys.
After surfing this web for a long time and reading the stuff you’ve been putting in I must say that I love this web. Now, why am I here now? Because I have a problem, of course!

My problem is extremely low torque in low RPM around 750-1000RPM.
Car is now driven 260.000 km and The torque has always been very good and just suddenly it went away. Is that bad that when you turn the wheel when the car is in idle (750) rpm it goes down to 400-500 rpm. Any idea what the problem can be?

Toyota LandCruiser LC80 model 1995 (month 10) 4.2L Diesel 24 valves. This is a Europe model (imported to Iceland from Germany) VIN/VDS: JT111TJ8207401657. 1HD-FT (HDJ80L – GNMEWW)

Man those Iceland Cruisers are so cool!

As to your problem...Does the drop in idle only occur when you turn the wheel? To me that indicates that the power steering pump is putting a heavy load on the engine. Maybe due to the tire size but if it just started happening then maybe your pump is going out.

As for the low torque not a clue...I had to tax my brain coming up with the other idea :) Bound to be at least 10-20 folks on here that can offer some advice.

As Corsair23 suggested I would get PS pump looked at.
Whats its like at higher rpm ,any smoke ,hard starting when cold?

You could also give it a compression test or check it on a dyno.

Hi guys.

On the higher RPM it is fine, no smoke. No problem starting cold. The problem is I thing not enough oil on low RPM, there is some unit that will increase oil (in low RPM to keep the RPM as closest to normal when Idle) when you turn on AC or turn you wheel just to mention some. I’m wondering if it can be the Actuator set, idle up (26133A EPC number)?

My non turbo has no fast idle actuator to increase the rpm when you turn,it doesnt need it.

However if you did have one it would be on the fuel pump where the aircon fast idle is.

I just got a power steering pump from a 12HT for my 2H, and it has a vacuum driven idle up valve from the banjo fitting at the pump that usually connects to the throttle body.
I would guess that somehow this connection is interrupted, therefore you get a strong lowering of the idle when turning the wheel at low rpm.

Looks fun...But what what do you do for fun in the winter :D

hay there i have a lj78 turbo done 200000kms and have similar probs ,ruff idle and low torque at low revs (sometimes) and i'm burning a bit of oil. i'm pretty sure the turbo is leeking oil into the intake manafold. HELP

have had boost guage installed running at 10psi i wonder if the engine has been cooked??

turbo seals and o-rings .. I don't think really the engine ( or not the hole engine )

i.ve since found that the problem at idle is more electrical i think. when i start my wagon it starts to idle pretty rough and a few seconds later i hear a CLICK which sounds like its coming from under the dash , amd then it idles fine.... for a while.... then when i drive for a bit and it warms up to operating temp and stop its running rough as guts.. and same again ,turn it off for a few seconds and back on runs rough and ...CLICK ... running sweet.... its wearing me down HELP
