All,

I am finally getting around to converting my '74 F1.5 accessories to a 2F setup to add power steering.

I got the accessories from a '79 parts truck a while back and the truck is long gone.

On RockAuto it looks like there is a split on that year - 1/79 and older is different than the later part of the year.

Does anyone know what the differences on the water pump would be? Anything I should be concerned about? How can I tell which fan/clutch I have?

Thanks!

This is a good thread on water pumps :

Btw : Do yourself a gigantic favor and buy OEM. I replaced mine this fall with a Rockauto unit and an internal bearing went south in less than a month. I got my money back and got an OEM unit from here for $88.77, including shipping.

You don't want to do that job two times. Ask me. I know!!

what fan are you running clutch or regular that will narrow it down quite a bit.?

Post up some pictures of your current set up. What harmonic balancer do you have? What water pump pulley do you have? What PS pump bracket are you going with?

I guess I should ask a more basic question first....

I have a '74 with a direct drive fan. Can I use the '79 alternator and brackets without changing the water pump?

I have not chosen a power steering pump bracket yet - just trying to gather the parts and get my engine ready.

Where are you going to mount the alt bracket? Does your head have the taped holes?

ETA: These pics helped me a lot...

I have the "fan clutch" pulley shown in the picture that I pulled from the '79. My engine currently has the one labeled '73.

My block is tapped for the alternator bracket.

Maybe you have a 2F block.

Do you have a two-jaw puller? Pull the flange that goes to the pulley off the new waterpump, slide your old flange on...
You can put either fan on any waterpump.

Sorry all, I don't think I read enough before I started asking questions.

It looks like I can just slap on the alternator bracket from the '79 with a new alternator and leave my water pump alone since I already have the double pulleys.

You need to post some pictures of what you have if you want answers.
