HDJ80 question for those in the know

Thanks for replying, I’m fairly mechanically minded but not a mechanic, parts are pretty easy to find in France where I live. I’ve heard that the injectors need replacing on these vehicles as do the big end bearings as if they go wrong the engine goes pop, do you have any experience of this? As...

HDJ80 question for those in the know

Hi all, a good friend of mine has passed away and his sons have offered me his HDJ80 at what I believe is a good price (13000E). It has been pretty well kitted out with guards and steps, roof rack, tent etc. Two years ago it as reworded underneath and resorayed with Raptor all over. My concern...

    Torque setting-HELP

Hi all, my mechanic is about to change the cylinder head on my 1986 lj70 2.4td, round headlamp Toyota, I can’t find my manual and I’ve been searching the www tonight for the right torque setting for the head to cylinder block, I seem to have conflicting answers, could anybody please help me out...

    Tweeting wastegate on LJ70 turbo

That’s just the answer I wanted thanks, I know it’s possible to tune the pump and turbo but unfortunately at the moment it’s out of my skill range, I think a good start would be to get a boost gauge and pyrometer, I don’t suppose you’ve got a link to a suitable one for my vehicle? I wish I knew...

    Tweeting wastegate on LJ70 turbo

Thanks for replying, If I remember correctly the original normally stays under 10psi, so u think it can safely go up to 14psi? What would happen if it went over 14psi? We talking about knackered turbo or new engine head, I understand since Toyota introduced the turbo on that model it developed...

    Tweeting wastegate on LJ70 turbo

Hi all Continuing on the path of resolving power issues on my 1986 round headlight Lj70, I’ve got a reconditioned turbo arriving shortly, hopefully this will help, the last one wasn’t in amazing condition and was spitting a lot of oil. A few people have told me it’s possible to add washers to...

    Lj70 1986 Turbo issues

Okeydokey, so basically you’re saying that instead of diverting blow by from the top of rocker cover to turbo intake, I should divert it under the engine and out, then block up the pipe on the turbo intake ? Yeah I realize these engines lack power but when I bought it originally it had more oomph...

    Lj70 1986 Turbo issues

Ok thanks, I’m still trying to get to the bottom of lack of power issues so I’m going to replace the turbo, I’ve now found a reasonably priced reconditioned one. As far as the breather tube on the crank case is concerned, currently the pipe is connected to the turbo air in, are you saying to...

    Lj70 2.4td 1986 green turbo light

The mechanic had forgot to put a vacuum tube back! Theres a T piece that joins up the injection pump to the engine intake and vacuum switch? Anyway he had blocked it off to see if that affected power and left it off, this was stopping the turbo boosting / green light coming on.

    Lj70 1986 Turbo issues

Hi there, my round headlamp lj70 1986 2.4td is leaking oil from the turbo and the oil is going into the engine intake manifold, it’s dribbling through the manifold seal. Firstly I’m guessing this is bad for the engine as too much oil during combustion. I’m in the process of getting my turbo...

    Lj70 2.4td 1986 green turbo light

Ok thanks, I’ve been looking at standard exchange reconditioned turbos which come in at around 350 euros (I’m in France), though I have seen new (possibly Chinese ones) online cheaper than that, I guessed it was best to go with an original but reconditioned instead of an unknown make but you’re...

    Lj70 2.4td 1986 green turbo light

Thanks for your reply, fuel filter and air filter are almost new. I suspect he has turned up the main fuel screw, that was what he was playing around with.. if he has turned it up too much would that have killed the turbo? It’s been spitting a bit of oil out for a while, it was on my radar to...
