    Sudden Wheel Bearing Failure?

Alright, thanks for the info. I'll redo that to make sure. I did check to see if the hub was getting hot and it was warm, but not uncomfortable to hold my hand on. I'd rather be on the safe side though. Thanks again.

    Sudden Wheel Bearing Failure?

I suppose it could be too tight. The way I understand it, the first torque is to seat it and then you back it off and retighten to set the preload. The fish scale method is putting a number to the force needed, the torque is the tension required to get that preload. I didn't use a fish scale...

    Sudden Wheel Bearing Failure?

What I did this time was similar. I initially set it to 59nm, spun it with the wheel on a few time before backing off. But I re-torqured it, stepping up a couple times till it felt right and ended up at 45nm. Then I dint the lock washer and torqued the second nut the same. I didn't have a...

    Sudden Wheel Bearing Failure?

I'm using koyo bearings. Packed properly as well. At this point my best guess is that I set the preload too tight and the heat caused it to fail. Maybe was just a bit seized when I checked for play and then finally let go. I couldn't hear any signs of it going, but the old girl isn't exactly...

    Sudden Wheel Bearing Failure?

The locking tab was set. I actually had 2 in and two out. The nuts and washer were still in place, I had to bend the tabs back to take off the outer nut.

    Sudden Wheel Bearing Failure?

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I've put everything back together, this time with a torque wrench. Both previous times were done purely by feel with assistance from others who have done significantly more wheel bearings than I have. I ended up at 45nm feeling right with no play. Doesn't feel...

    Sudden Wheel Bearing Failure?

Nothing unusual. That tyre is a little more worn than the others, but its even wear. These tyres are all nearly due for replacement anyway.

    Sudden Wheel Bearing Failure?

What would be the best way to check if anythings bent?

    Sudden Wheel Bearing Failure?

I seem to have had a rather sudden front wheel bearing failure, for the second time. The first time was maybe a year and half after a full swivel hub rebuild, so I assumed I didn't set the preload correctly and neglected to check the bearings frequently afterwards. This time is about 500kms...

Clutch Fork or Slave Cylinder Issue

I've got what sounds like a bearing noise coming from the gearbox. I had a new clutch installed about a year and a half ago, but I'm not sure when the noise started. Can only hear it when outside the car or if I've got a window down next to a something that reflects the sound. It goes away with...

    Killing Power Window Switches?

I managed to mostly work that out. The switch just connects one side of the motor to 12v and the other to ground. Didn't know that it was grounded through the master switch, but I knew they had to both be connected for either to work. The fault lies somewhere in the circuit after the master...

    Killing Power Window Switches?

I just replaced the rocker switch. Could be something in the wiring from the switch to the motor. Maybe a wire has rubbed through and is shorting out. I'll have to check that. The other switches I tried were just the rocker switches, not any of the connecting wires. Could be that the position...

    Killing Power Window Switches?

I didn't use a voltmeter when I was testing it, I didn't have one on hand. I ended up using some jumper wires to power the motor and it moved up and down just fine, so I tried a switch from one of the other windows. When it failed the second time, I also tested with another switch and it...

    Killing Power Window Switches?

When I bought my 80 a few months ago, the front passenger windows went down a bit, then up then stopped. I though it might have just been jammed, so I went through the process of diagnosing and trying to fix the issue. In the end, I found that the switch had failed and I ordered a replacement...

    Spare Tyre Cross-member Needed?

Seems like it will probably be fine without the cross member, at least till I have time to have anoth crack at putting it in. Wasn't going to put it back under. I'm going to get a rear bar with a swing out carrier in the future, but for now it can sit in the back. It hangs too low and I seem...
