Correct it compresses the bucket allowing the shim to sneak out.
.15-.25mm for intake per FSM
.35-.45mm for exhaust per FSM
Should aim to be in middle range as far as clearance goes
Valve job complete along with coolant system flush. New OEM radiator,thermostat and associated hoses. Timing belt, tensioner and water pump. Oil pressure sensor and some other odds and ends. Thanks @rick_d for lending me some SSTs knowledge bombs.
Created this Pdf spread sheet of all the valve shims thicknesses along with OEM part numbers for doing a valve check on a 1HD-T engine. I believe it's also the same for 2LTE, 3L, 1KZTE, 1Z. If anyone could find this useful great. Happy to email you the PDF version for ease of copy and paste.
