I plan to replace the radiator, but it would be nice to see some sort of actual leak rather than just spending $425 on a new OE radiator.

But doesn't it seem odd that I'm not seeing coolant on the ground? Nothing within the engine bay seems wet or no signs of drops even after parking it overnight in my garage. I would assume if the system was using coolant that the overflow tank would be losing coolant daily, right?

Got home from work and sprayed water, didn't see any bubbles coming from the top, and everything still looks nice and clean. As for the hose you mention, hoses were replaced at 292k with OE Toyota hoses, the only thing I can suspect is that when the head gasket got redone they bought cheap...

To be honest, I have never noticed the smell of coolant, but I will start checking. I believe when I had the head gasket redone at 292k they replaced the hoses and radiator, but now I'm curious. If they didn't then you are correct, it is probably time to replace those. I replaced the fan...

These were the pics before I cleaned off all the crusty red residue. Another member posted that they wanted to see better pics so I snapped some before I got started. Figured if I sent pics after the fact with stuff looking "wet" it wouldn't do much good. I'm going to watch things closely and...

these are the last two pics. all the hoses seem to have normal feel, not stiff. They were replaced within the last couple of years, I'm digging through receipts to see what I can find.

Snapped some pics. Cleaned everything up tonight and will see how it looks over the next week or so. I noticed when I got back from work that the coolant reservoir was about 1" above the fill line. By the time the evening came, it was back "normal" and at the fill line. I"ll check to see...

but what exactly is this rubber doing? I suppose at this point, I am going to clean the radiator up tonight and get all the crusty antifreeze off of it and see if it comes back. If it returns, might be time for a new radiator.

Is there a part number for this plastic cover rubber seal you are talking about? also, I have not noticed a leak on any hose, but will check again once I get home and park it.
