    big brake upgrade help

Hey all, happy labor day weekend. I took the opportunity to do the big ('97) front brake upgrade on my 91 HDJ81. I'd say everything went smoothly, but it didn't. Nevertheless got the thing back together and was going to install my reman'd '97 LC calipers with toyota 100 series brake pads over...

    HDJ81 A442F hydro broke =(

@IanB ...for sure... in fact westcoastcruisers lists them for about $6100. Going back the drawing board.. it seems like finding or reman'ing a a442 hydo is going to be tricky, as the parts aren't the same as any of the domestic models... What's the general wisdom on going with a reman'd a442...

    HDJ81 A442F hydro broke =(

@retrofive what a sad story.. well it'd be cool to meet you guys either way, wish it was under better circumstances! OK so Douglas is right, its definitely the most expensive route, but not as bad as it could be considering what I'm getting quoted on a rebuild for the a442. I don't know if I'm...

    HDJ81 A442F hydro broke =(

true, but I have no warranty, or way to know of its condition... wouldn't care as much if it wasn't my family's primary rig. and I'd need a fully hydro a442f, which AFAIK was never sold in the US. So I'd be heading to canada shopping for an imported JDM or aussie car. and the one I did find...

    HDJ81 A442F hydro broke =(

From Rodney: "You will need both the bell housing and torque convertor. We have the Stand Alone A750F computer system with full wiring harness for $3500 Aud." still trying to find out if my stock transfer case would work, and if any modifications to drivetrain would have to happen??? maybe...

    HDJ81 A442F hydro broke =(

just surveying the landscape... apparently the a750f 5pd auto bolted up to 1HDT's in the 100 series... if I got my hands on a standalone trans ECU would this be an option with the correct bellhousing? would my current TC and driveshafts work? muddy here in OR, missing the truck already.

    HDJ81 A442F hydro broke =(

ouch. Just heard back from the trans shop. They've worked on these before. I guess the bus tranny isn't as bulletproof as I had hoped. They said they didn't even need to pull the pan. It's not making any pressure and they think it needs a complete rebuild. This could be shop-talk, but I'm...

    HDJ81 A442F hydro broke =(

Ian, the gear selector still "clicks" into each gear, it isn't smooth like its totally disconnected. Good note about the kick-down cable. I'm usually all game for some DIY but with the weather turning and no garage I'm having it taken to a 4x4 tranny shop in Medford, I'll bring all these...

    HDJ81 A442F hydro broke =(

IanB, Duh. I was up late reading the fluid exchange thread, never thought to connect it with the pump working correctly =). That's worth a shot. From the FSM troubleshooting - possible issues: manual linkage out of adjustment valve body or primary regulator faulty parking lock pawl faulty...

Thanks Douglas. Tried that too... Anyone know of a sure fire way to see if the pump is generating pressure besides running a gauge to it? just trying to rule stuff out. Cheers

    HDJ81 A442F hydro broke =(

Hi all, First post. Been lurking for a while as I've been on the hunt for an 80 series for a few months. I searched for a good long while and couldn't find any related threads... I've owned and worked on diesels from MB, Ford, Dodge, VW and Caterpillar, so thought I'd give Toyota a try...
