Hi Tim. Sounds good. I’m having my brothers and sons help me lift off the frame tonight and standing it up by the garage door. Let me know when you want to come get it.

    SOLD  Free: 1978 FJ40 Tub

Free if you want it… full tub from 1978 (October 1977) FJ40. It has issues… various rust spots, but if you can use it, it’s all yours. I’ll leave it on here for a short while to see if someone wants it, otherwise I’ll have to haul/dispose of it so I can get working on putting the new tub on the...

    Dating a warn winch

I know this is a really, really old thread… but I just have to say thanks for the info here, to help identify. I happened to pick up a fully functional 8274 just the other day… it’s going on an FJ40, but it was their “Jeep Special Edition”, with a 66764 serial number and a manufactured date code...

Hi there. Is a reply do your post the same as a PM? :) I’ve not done much posting… mainly searching/reading/learning…

Need odometer for ’78 FJ40 Gauge cluster (October 1977 build)

Hi Devo. Thank you for the pointer to JVZii. I got a note from him and will definitely connect. Got a few replies that I’m catching up on today. As for your question on emissions… it’s tighter than it used to be. If its old enough, it’s exempt… ’75 or older with Collector plates. Without...

Need odometer for ’78 FJ40 Gauge cluster (October 1977 build)

Love your handle… thanks Pighead. :-) Yeah, I should learn how to take it apart. I saw some videos that looked pretty simple, removing a c-clip and the whole thing slid off the pin… but mine looks like it’s more permanently assembled… no c-clip except for on the end with the gear. Great advice...

Need odometer for ’78 FJ40 Gauge cluster (October 1977 build)

Anyone have any pointers to where I could find just the odometer (or whole speedometer) component to the gauge cluster? I have a stuck odo… found some info on how to free it up by disassembling and cleaning the hardened grease, which prevents all of the dials except the 10ths from spinning. Mine...

    1978 FJ40 turn signal replacement… 3-wire to 2 wire?

Hey Matt… thank you. I’m not sure if I got the exact ones you reference, but I did get them from SOR… I did buy the after market ones. But the front left has 3 wires, while the front right only has 2. I do like the idea of running a “real” ground wire. I just picked an assortment of bullet...

    1978 FJ40 turn signal replacement… 3-wire to 2 wire?

Thank you, Nate. I will do that. And I was thinking about creating a ground wire on each side, since between the thick coat of aftermarket paint and the undercoating underneath, it may not be grounding to the frame properly. I appreciate the guidance...

    1978 FJ40 turn signal replacement… 3-wire to 2 wire?

Followup… for anyone who may need the same info: My ’78 is a 10/77, which is “supposed” to be after they switched to 3-wire on the left front turn signal, but mine must have used some pre-cutover parts… a “Franken-40” so I’m told I just need to figure out which one of the 2-wires on the vehicle...

    1978 FJ40 turn signal replacement… 3-wire to 2 wire?

I’m doing my best over the past few days to search for anything that may answer my question, but in the mean time, will post this here in case anyone has a quick suggestion. I’m replacing the front turn signals on my ’78 FJ40. Bought two new ones from SOR and have physically installed them, but...

Free to a good home… Couple of folks thought they wanted them but didn’t work out, so they’re still available. Local pickup in Ft Collins, CO probably best... Steel wheels from FJ40... 15" diameter, 5.5 width, 6 hole. They'll need some work, but I don't need them. If you're near the Fort...

    Here I go...

Thanks. Most are gone... just the red and green ones now, and have to figure out which one stays long term. I'm in Ft Collins. Guess I need to add that to the profile.

    Here I go...

Hello, good people. Just got my account set up and got the welcome note from Woody... so I'm following directions here and doing an intro post. Got my hands full with my latest projects, after a long hiatus. Have a working '78 that is usable ("Walter", the red one), got new shoes before my...
