Bandeirante Selfmade Swing out Spare tire carrier

I'm doing the math right now. I'm struggling to find a nice swivel mechanismn down here. Or I miss the right term for it. 1. Try. the base made of 3/16 in a U-form. Even more junction plates to make it stiffer wont help here. Hitting easily 300MPa in the corner. 2. Welding in another piece...

Bandeirante Selfmade Swing out Spare tire carrier

Very nice, thanks a lot. I will try to run it through a CAD program, but 1/4 is pretty solid. Do you think, that's a bit overdone or just right? The arm looks straight forward, my feeling would tell me to make it a bit more beefy, are you fine with it? Anything you would change? Thanks a lot...

Bandeirante  Selfmade Swing out Spare tire carrier

Good morning, I have some issues with the swing out carrier right now. It's attached to the cabin and it's struggling a bit with the weight, I guess. I start to get little cracks around the mounting points. I thought of building a new one myself, a reinforced version. With the option to carry...

    J4 Diesel Intercooler retrofit, ...

I was looking for a LDA, but it would mean, I need to change the whole pump for the successor model and those are a bit rare = expensive. The AC works without those elec fans as well, but for sure better with. The idea was to get rid of the fixed fan for the engine, but that doesn't really...

    J4 Diesel Intercooler retrofit, ...

Bom dia, I have a '89 Toyota Bandeirante with the Mercedes Engine and got 'em a turbo upgrade like 4 years ago. Since then I'm driving this setup without issues. When I was installing the turbo, it took me quite some tim, because it wasn't a Plug'n'Play kit or so and I had to upgrade some...

My '89 "Band" (Jipe curto) down here in Brazil. Hands up, he doesn't need to do the hard offroad stuff, but he gets out 1-2 a week. Groceries, work, Friends, ...

Repacked bearings (color of old grease)

I have the same issue on the rear right side. I already had little diff oil in the hub. I pushed the seal ring a bit deeper into the axle, I hope that works for now.

Repacked bearings (color of old grease)

The U-Joints gets lubricated often, mostly 2000-3000km and when I was in the mud. I was a bit concerned about the wheel bearing.

Repacked bearings (color of old grease)

Good morning, when I got my J4 4years/25.000km ago, I did a big service, replaced all the oils, greases, fluids, etc. The maintenance history on a more then 30y old car is not reliable. Yesterday I greased cardans, etc. Toyota wants me to repack the bearings in the hubs every 20.000km, which I...

22 year old Timing Belt ...

I know just some old kind of engines (Volvos) which do not have a interference between valves and piston in case the timing belt rips off. Sure, if there is not interference, then just a new timing belt is necessary. This is what I found in google: Interference Engines - The Complete List -...

22 year old Timing Belt ...

The Japanese OEM-material is pretty good. Same with all the hoses, fuel lines, etc. I saw this often in the old cars my father had in his workshop. The price/effort for replacing a dry belt vs. engine failure (of course at the worst possible moment) justifies for me the replacement. My father...

    Plug Engine Oil Leak

It will come back, I have the same issue on the transfer gearbox. I tried to get it oil free with brakeclean and then apply a lot, but it's just a matter of time. Anyhow, crossing fingers. But I would consider to replace the gaskets.

    Plug Engine Oil Leak

Nope. Any of the "solutions" will not work on the long run, the leak will always come back. Is it the oil pan or the cover on front?
