Most Miles on Gates Timing Belt/kit

Looks like the belt physically snapped? Usually when it is a failure of the timing belt due to age/miles, it is the teeth that fail or the belt skips a few teeth. When a belt breaks like that, it is because something seized. You say the pulleys turn freely, have to tried spinning the engine with...

Rear View Mirror Compass! Need Help!

On Lexus vehicles, if navigation was optional ( circa early 2000s), the cars with navigation would have a regular auto dimming mirror. Those that do not have navigation would have a compass... sometimes on the center info display, sometimes on the mirror. It could be the same on LC100s

12 Hole Injector Upgrade - Finally Tested

@dirtydeeds , In the link below, you state that low end torque is very noticeable : https://www.tundras.com/threads/chips-cai-for-better-mpg.26124/ Inferring there is a gain in low end torque which this testing debunks. How can driveability be better, downshifts less, stay in gear longer etc...

Buying a supercharged 100 with 160k, any major concerns?

I have a TRD supercharged 2UZFE with 260k+ miles on it (230k of it supercharged). Overall reliability will be less, there are more things to go wrong. The coupler will need to be changed every 100k miles, supercharger oil every 30k miles, my bearings are still ok but I have no idea how long they...

    2002 LX 470 - Mechanic Recommendations

Most of these guys will probably flame me for this.... but here's my reccomendation.... An inability to work on LC/LX does not preclude you from owning one. All it takes is lots of money, either in paying a mechanic to repair and maintain an older one or paying the monthly note on a newer one...

    2002 LX 470 - Mechanic Recommendations

Take it to somewhere that knows cruisers. AHC shocks rarely need to be replaced. It's the globes that wear out and causes the bumpy ride. If the shop does not know this (per your estimate replacing shocks but not globes) I would question their knowledge on cruisers. T belt and water pump should...

Timing Belt at TDC or 50 Degrees?

Toyota 2UZ-FE Timing Belt Marks 4.7L Either TDC or 50° atdc will work If you have it at 50° atdc, you have less chance either of the cam gears will rotate when the belt is off as there is less spring pressure on your valves trying to rotate the cam.

    Stupid Mechanic's Tricks/True Confessions 101

@MontyAndCruiser, You are actually correct, there is a front diff cover. Not sure if you have enough clearance to remove the the cover completely to gain access. Much easier then dropping the whole diff tho

    Stupid Mechanic's Tricks/True Confessions 101

How many hours are you willing to spend on trying to get the magnet out with a dental pick? Drop the front driveshaft, remove the ring bolts on the pumkin and pull the front diff. If you STILL can't get to the magnet, (since it's lodged between your housing and diff/ring/pinion ) you might have...
