@Angeltech where in Ohio are you? If you are near Cincinnati, check out Cincinnati Transmission Specialists in Sharonville. 513-530-8726 or cincinnatitrans.com is their website. I used to work for them years ago, and had them rebuild my A343F in my 80 a couple years ago, and it has been...
Use a wide fan nozzle and you'll be fine pressure washing it. Automatic car washes usually have a high pressure underbody spray and they don't hurt anything. Hell, a bunch of us end up belly deep in water quite often and smash down on rocks. If an 80 can handle what I do to mine, it can handle...
It's actually designed for a pintle hook style hitch and other countries rate it for close to 8000lbs towing. I think my problems were almost entirely caused by me not loading the trailer correctly and not having the trailer brakes hooked up. I'm going back to my under-frame hitch, but I think...
No reason to burn them when people can learn from them. The only damage was to my own truck, so I don't need to dodge lawyers. Thankfully nothing catastrophic happened and I was able to photograph the aftermath to hopefully deter others from making the same mistakes I made. Safer solutions will...
I like this setup, but it would have put the ball way too high for any of the trailers I pull, and I got the hitch I have for like $5 when I spotted it in the salvage yard. I'm going to cut out the crossmember and build a new bumper with an integrated 2" receiver so I can still use a drop...
While it certainly wasn't designed or intended to be a fair scientific test, but the rust is pretty much all surface rust and should have a negligible impact on strength. I'm mostly posting this as a PSA to people to not cut corners when towing. Take the time to load the trailer correctly and...
***FIRST AND FOREMOST, YES I KNOW THIS TOWING SETUP WAS UNSAFE. THE ENTIRE REASON I AM POSTING THIS IS TO DETER PEOPLE FROM MAKING THE SAME MISTAKES I MADE. I GOT LUCKY THIS TIME, BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY BAD SITUATION****
I know this has been a hot topic over the years here, towing with...
Check the front of the rear wheel wells. The seatbelt mounting points are prone to rusting out. There is a rectangle in the wheel well, smack that with a hammer too. The factory undercoating will hide severe rust in there, forgot to mention that.
Luckily I found the rust in mine before...
Doesn't look too bad to me. I would scrape/pressure wash away that black goopy undercoating and see what it looks like underneath it. smack the frame with a hammer in several spots. Hit it with some force. If it's severe rust you will punch through or knock chunks off
