The FSM calls for the dreaded Special service tool to turn that bolt on the compressor. Or will a socket fit on it to turn it? Can it be checked while still on the engine?
1996 80 with 287,000 miles. AC unit squeals and smokes.

I replaced the belt and tried different tensions.
The idler pulley spins freely by hand with the belt off.
