Contacts inside the AFM electronic board were damaged. I used my knife and opened her up and put everything back in it’s place and high temp silicones it up and it’s good as new.
I finally got it all worked out. It was the AFM. There were several small foils of metal inside the AFM that were contacting places that they shouldn't be. removed those and now she starts up like a charm. I am sure that new fuel pump and distributor, spark plugs, and wires didn't hurt either.
It was running fine, we were driving on some forest service roads and we stopped and idled while looking at wildfife and it died. It started right back up and made it home just fine. I parked it in the driveway to hose down dirt and mud and it hasn't started again. I thought it might be a...
I am trying to trouble shoot, my 1991 3FE and I think I have it narrowed down to either the AFM or the ECU. I don't really want to buy new/used ones, if I don't actually need to. So I am looking try swapping them out to see if that solves my problems. Iv'e gone as far as my non-electrically...
I have not checked this yet, as I did not know which one to check, I will check that tonight.
Unfortunately I did remove the two screws on the connector housing, when looking around trying to figure out if something came disconnected...so I may have to replace my AFM, in addition to any other...
So far I have replaced my fusible link (which was new last fall) and verified that I have +12v to the fuse box in the engine compartment on the drivers side and I have also replaced the Main EFI relay in the same fuse box.
