this is a nice solid 40 - personally, i would not pay that for a 3spd / F combo esp if you came from a 76 before - BIG changes imo between the 2 versions - just something to be aware of. thats in no way dogging the early ones, but they are a different experience
i would say 80% of 40s, esp the post 70s ones are going to be rusted in that same spot - you're lucky the door bottoms look fine. just deal with it - have it fixed if you have welding skills prob @$1k for replacement panels/repaint...tack on $2500 above patch price if a shop does it. if you are...
the patina and originality of that one is great - patina / barn find rigs are the hot thing now.
that does NOT look like any 11k mile rig ive ever seen though....the floorboards look toasted
that said....people who 'know' these vehicles understand what it takes to revive one after decades of...
im in the leave it ON the frame to do any rust repairs / panel replacement camp - although you will find many doing it off the frame as well. i dont know what you are dealing with as no pics provided but the reason is dont expect everything to bolt back together after cutting out a lot of rusted...
When I bought my 8/69 it had a replaced 60 2f with no fan shroud and I drove it like that for a year or so - no issues but I decided to get a shroud while fixing other PO issues. Not knowing anything I ran into the same situation as desertfj40 - the rad support won’t really allow any room to...
I remember seeing an unreal mustard 40 that belonged to a Toyota dealer. meticulously frame off restored for $26k back around then so that gives you a baseline
ive noticed classic car (and most collectibles) prices run up in sequence with home equity values - it’s easy money to tap into. When...

this was my experience as well - you need that spare space. the 60 fan fitting the fan clutch deeper than the ‘new’ Aisan 40 fan. see in your pick how the fan clutch is almost inside the fan. The 40 fan sticks out @ 1”. I think the older oem 40 fans are backspaced different. The newer Asian...
yeah ive heard can be done as you say but others say to drop the pan route - im with you as to why i asked because my pan pretty solid with no leaks and why mess with it
so looking at your earlier pics - someone added the floor mount shifter....you have a dash and a floor shifter - so they disconnected the dash linkage right? have you checked the 4wd operation to make sure it works? those vac systems (to ME) are more complicated than just a straight to tc...
yeah that goes under the truck to the tc - pretty sure i have that will check
my set up looked like the right side image - your probaby the left but parts may be adaptable - need to check with the early 40 gurus over in the 25 section maybe

ive got some vac transfer linkage stuff from a 8/69 - not the dash handle it was long broken but from that out to tc - im not an expert on the stuff but i took it off and boxed it up if there is anything specific you need. the vac rubber all rotted probably
i would have just found a cool jerry...
reading the plot to this 40 reminded me of a guy in HS who came from a wealthy family - got a competition ski boat for his 15th birthday, which he blew the engine in..then daddy fixed that and not long after he sunk it with a load of bikini teens when he forgot to put the drain plug back in.
we...
It looks like the fan is chewed up on the edges - and a 60 series fan is real tight fit In the smaller shroud. Plus the fan flexes at high rpms- just throwing out observations here maybe not getting proper air flow....(distance from radiator)…not enough room to pull air just a WAG
the 74 was...
