I honestly do not know. I did drive it almost all the way home back in December 2023 when I bought it. Did not notice an issue then and the seller had it running when i arrived and it started right up. I did just go out and reran the compression test, #1 140, #2 135, #3 125, #4 130, #5 140...

    Update on progress

Not a lot of progress to report. I decided in May to retire and then also to sell my home. I had an estate sale and now have a contract on the house and ordered a trailer to haul the FJ to a new location. Thinking about a barndo but looking around. I did get the 4 wheel disc brakes installed...

Knuckle time - I do not think these are as shiny as Project Wrong Way

thank you, and yes these are the spindles. So I spoke to Classic Cruisers and the suggestion there was to retain the current spindles and 6 spline birfields. So I am going to regroup and pull the 30 spline spindle off the axle and put the 6 spline back on to get the brake job completed so I...

Knuckle time - I do not think these are as shiny as Project Wrong Way

So, I marked and measured the ball and then moved to the knuckle housing. The previous owner had gathered the 30 spline birfields and the 30 spline axle housings so I went to attach the 30 spline axle housing to the knuckle and it would not fit.n the inner diameter of the 6 spline housing is...

Knuckle time - I do not think these are as shiny as Project Wrong Way

Ran into another snag. part of this upgrade included replacing the 6 spline Birfields with the 30 spline birfields. The previous owner obtained the 30 spline birfields and their associated housings. Went throu thank you, did similar to what you show. I had some steel marking pencils (not...

Knuckle time - I do not think these are as shiny as Project Wrong Way

Hopefully the special service tool will arrive today so I can get these back together. Post office says it is out for delivery, I ordered it from Australia before I saw the one offered in the US. I am swpping out all the bearings and hopefully this tool will help me calculate the correct...

question on my FJ40 front differential

thank you. I will check this out. That spurred me to spend a morning figuring out where I laid that manual and I did find it. Thank you, that fixed it. All back together and refilled, torqed to specs and within backlash.

That is seriously a mirror finish. I fear I am not that dedicated.

Thank you and no there was no tack weld there. The inner clip on the left axle fits tightly in the groove the right side new inner C-Clip can spin freely. definitely a learning experience. Was up too late last night, going to grab a bite and get back to it.

Looking for opinions on my FJs body, I already have unsolicited opinions on my own body.

(and Yes, I reworded the title after I spoke it outloud) Long preface. the rear part of my 75 tub is not in great shape. As soon as I have the wheels all back on, going to roll it out and remove the body and also grind on what seems to be a bondo mine. I picked up a body to a 1970 FJ 40 with...

Knuckle time - I do not think these are as shiny as Project Wrong Way

this was where I left off before today. The left side seemed fine and cleaned up well. The right side was a different story, when I went to pull the birfield and short axle, the birfield came out in my hand, the snap ring was floating in side the grease and I found the original snap still on...

question on my FJ40 front differential

I was at a standstill waiting on inner C clip for my R front axle and it came in. (thanks to FJparts) Back to working on the front disc brake swap this afternoon and I have some questions which someone may be able to help. I finished removing the gasket material from the axle housing and...
