Build Kid-safe 1975 FJ40 build in Washington DC

bought some doors for $100 to make into half doors. My understanding is that the older style doors fit well on a newer style truck, the door Striker just needs to be relocated and replaced with an ambulance door striker? I’ll figure it out once I salvage the doors - they are rough. Bent up...

I know ive taken pics of everything I’ve done recently, I’ll try and catch up on posting in the next few weeks. Next on the horizon is a new brake master cylinder and booster from city racer, power steering with oem box, half doors, and a winch if I can find one - I have about a hundred logs...

The VFW was having a car show less than a mile from my house. Now that the truck is getting close to done I figured why not? I drove it down with the kids and hung out with some real nice folks for a few hours. Kids had a blast, and the barbecue was on point. I was surprised to win best vintage!

Painted the tuffy and added a new lock, I think it looks great. It has the older plastic drink holders - it was originally much wider, so the benefit is massive drink holders - small drink holders are a pet peeve of mine.

For the door cards I used contact cement and a heat gun to adhere the coral fabric to the card. I used an appropriately sized wrench to shape the fabric and revive it into the grooves. Seams ok now, but I kind of doubt it will hold long term… I’m already looking for an upholsterer to do the...

Time to do something about the tuffy box the truck came with. Upon inspection looks like it’s way to wide to fit with stock seats- when I bought the truck it only had an aftermarket racing seat, driver side only, so the 8.5 inch wide tuffy fit fine. I could have bought a new 6.5inch for a few...

Been a while, but getting back to it. Moved to a house without a garage - I’m going to build one, but for now I built a shed to hold the cruiser. My wife bought me a soft top with bows from Relik garage last year, I finally got around to installing it. The quality is questionable - very thin...

Fj40 power steering conversion Amazon option

@cruisermatt hooked me up with a fj40 box to rebuild, shipped fast and even repaired some damaged threads before sending - much appreciated!. Contacted valley hybrids, they are going to supply the bracket and some hoses/fittings. Still waiting on the Amazon nut, I’ll send a pick when/if it...

Ordered it, didn’t cost me anything, and now I just need to see if it’s a nut.

    That does seem suspiciously nut-like.

Yeah, this one got a little off track. It’s clear that oem parts are superior, not even a discussion to have, just a given. Some aftermarket parts are good enough to get the job done safely, and others aren’t, just wondering if this was one of them. Seems like it is not. Thanks for those who...

Fj40 power steering conversion Amazon option

Maybe not, but Toyota lists a large number of manufacturing affiliates in china and the parts/cars they make on their global website. These include years going back decades, and multiple Land Cruiser series/parts are listed. These may or may not have been exclusively for Chinese markets, but...

Excellent, thanks, this is the information I was looking for. I’ll likely go with the mini truck box, but it’s nice to know it’s out there and in use, and that it is of variable quality.
