    Turned out to be the wire just below the fusible link. Auto electrician replaced 30cm of wire that had been turned to carbon. Suprisingly nothing happened to the link itself.

    What other parts are there? The only other parts involved are the gearbox and the instrument cluster in the dash unless I'm missing something. I just want to do away with the mechanical cable if possible.

    Might be a long shot but is there a some sort of aftermarket electronic speedo cable/sender for the HJ75? The physical cable has always resulted in a jumpy speedo which drives me mad and I'm a bit over having to replace it when it finally gives up and breaks.

    Checked it tonight when I got home. With the engine off the accelerator goes all the way down with ease, engine running it goes firm at about halfway again. Can't afford the down time of a mechanic at the moment but this car is starting to get the better of me lately.
