Yes, I am in the States for the next two weeks. It sounds like new shocks are the way to go especially since I can put them in my checked baggage. I've looked at the Fox and the Rancho, but would be open to other options.

Thanks for the input. I'm in Africa so dust is definitely an issue as well as finding quality lubricants. I am also concerned about the crack, but was hoping I could find a replacement plate.

I have a '92 FDJ81 with the spare tire mounted on the rear of the car. I have two questions: First, where can I buy parts for this like the latch plate and latching mechanism? Second, does anyone have a solution for the latch? Mine sticks like crazy and takes some effort to release it...
