That's another ferry ride to get enough gear oil (and i found the thread that had capacities). Will do. Great tip about fill plugs... the bung on the pan was tight enough.

"And why not a .22 for those fuses that keep blowing?" Resistance is fusile. Also when Mr Ampere and Mr Volta meet Miss Primary Explosive, awkward things happen.

Well, that was fun! Oil change went easy, though I was shocked how thin and black the old oil was. Would have thought it had been done recently, and I'm glad I didn't take any chances. The ground clearance and top mount filter make it a breeze. All engine bay fluids checked and topped. I used a...

😁 that's rolling pretty heavy, but Montana be Montana. I may pack the 45 70 carbine if I'm in grizz country but, as a Canadian, the usual armament is stern language and stubbornness. Just got some of your list ready, but great points. The shopping list continues. Even if I'm not off road, I...

Clarkson said Alfas will break your heart, but we raced and broke the car instead. We broke that car over and over and over. We used up every cheap GTV part within 100kms. We had blue sky under all 4 tires on Deers Leap. We successfully lost races with only 3rd gear. The head gasket failed...

OK, tomorrow I get dirty. I'm currently in town having bought wipers, oil, filters, and other sundry bits. I'll give it a fresh start on fluids, trace down that heater fan fault, and maybe start the "what's rusting now?" game. I also have to figure out why it won't go into reverse now when...

Truly good points. And there are suggestions in this thread that really make it clear where my current and aspirational skills lie: I could trace electrical or fix a flat or replace a fuel filter, but could I do much more? The more I wrench at home the more I'll know. So for now I won't be...

The 40 is full of parts too, but i don't think the new door seals or Bimini will help in a jam. As with new badges and stickers, or the old gummed up Weber. 😅 Time to clean up for me. The multimeter might stay.

Much appreciated. I used to pack a spare computer in the Cherokee, but that's moot now!

What should I pack that will get me home if something goes wrong? What tool or spare part has saved your butt? Alternately, what do you haul around that you've never used?

Took it for a drive yesterday. It'll take a bit to get used to a manual choke again, but that's no biggie. The seating will be fine once I fab an extender for the seat belt... it's a bit of a strangler. Clutch is abrupt at the top of the pedal travel, but that can be adjusted per the manual...

Worked on a Duesenberg model A too. Overhead cam, great brakes, 4valves per bucket... also cleaned up the oil leaks from John Lennon's Rolls. Great experience for a teen.

Plan is to daily drive it, read forums, and try to avoid banging my left knee on the wheel too much. Once I'm comfortable I'll take it for a bit of a longer run to really clear the cobwebs. I still haven't even decided if I want it stock or mild mod or heavy mod. Time will tell.
