How much is too much engine oil?

I filled mine up with 8 as well and ended up pulling almost 700mL back out to get it right between the lines. Maybe I didn't drain as much out as I thought? For what its worth, I did use two 5 quart jugs and just based the 8 quarts off of the side markings haha. Interesting that the dip stick...

The Fumoto valve would have definitely helped haha I actually just used a large syringe and some flexible tubing and just snaked it down the dipstick hole. With the engine warm, it pulled out pretty quick and easily.

How much is too much engine oil?

For what its worth, I pulled out about 720 mL of oil and now its perfectly between the two dots. If my guestimating is correct, I was about 300-400 mL too full.

I didn't know that modern oils are resistant to foaming and aeration. Thanks for the tips!

How much is too much engine oil?

LMAO! No worries and good to know! I totally agree - it is a little more than high, I just don't have a good reference point to base this on haha That's really interesting (bolded) - I didn't know there are different types of dipstick for this engine. Like you said, I wonder how much variation...

How much is too much engine oil?

Amount is the same when sitting overnight. We recently changed the oil (hence why the oil is clean) and I think my stepfather just overfilled it a bit. When I checked the level after he did, this is what I found. He seemed to think it was OK, but I was more on the fence. Thanks for the heads...

How much is too much engine oil?

I recently checked my oil and just noticed that it indicates is a little high. My simple question is are these engines ok with a little over the max or do I need to crack the drain plug and let a little out? The image below is the oil after running the engine and then letting it sit for a few...

    Say hi to Luther

Looks like the transfer case lower protector, or part number 3617960010 which is about $135.39 from my local stealership. That's pretty cheap!

Agreed - that's why I asked if someone knew something that I didn't haha. If they continue to rise, Luther just might find another home to go to.

Yeah, good points. Maybe I will just run it for a while and sell it? We will see. I might have some spare time this weekend and this might be a "fun" project until it isn't haha. Daaaaaanng, that is an impressive restoration! Fortunately most of my rust is not on the body at all. LMAO I like...

I hear you loud and clear. I’m curious if it would be worth driving this around the mountains for a year or so, learn about the platform and keep a close eye out for a cleaner copy? That time learning and becoming familiar with the platform might be worth it considering how it would help me...
