Dealer is wanting to charge me $1300 for a charcoal canister and can't promise that's the problem. Yea, no thanks! =T

i havent done much except take it to the dealer. i checked the connections and gas cap and nothing seems out of the ordinary. the CEL comes on and off and has now stayed on.

The code supposedly says a valve switch is stuck open so I'm assuming it's the VSV and not necessarily the whole charcoal canister.

still having issues with this. toyota says i need a new charcoal canister and I don't want to spend $1200 for a new one. I'm getting the CEL and Trac Off light along with codes P2420 and P0441. Anyone in the area free to help me diagnose/fix? I'm hoping it's just the vsv? and i don't trust...

Thanks for the reply. Unless I'm misinformed, there are two valves. An external one (which is the replaceable one you're referring to), and an internal one which is throwing this code. I didn't see any cracks or anything unusual with wiring or vacuum line.

Hmmmm, I don't think pa has that but I'll check. I'm over 90k but not quite 100k yet.

I posted in FJ section. My charcoal canister has a stuck valve. Don't want to spend $600-1k for a new plastic box filled with charcoal, let alone $200-300 for a used one. Any cheap fix or way of bypassing the system sensors and still pass emissions/not trigger CEL? THANKS IN ADVANCE!
