I've been interested in quarter panel protection for a while. My truck is monstalined, gets wheeled and looks are not an issue. I'm definitely interested to see what you come up with. The taillight housing reinforcement definitely sounds like a good middle ground, even if they're shaped to fit...
I'm just getting into the crunched quarter panel gang. Jcardona1, I assume you made yours(?). I'm definitely thinking of moving up to something like that or more realistically, something like Shawn Jackson has, but the rust factor worries me a bit.
Our junkyards are too. When I came across this 4runner I was there for something else. Saw the fan and figured it was worth a shot. It ended up paying off. I'll keep an eye out for you around here, but if they're not available new, then I think the early 90s 4runners are your best bet.
I believe second gen 4runners have a different fan, but the same wiring. I ended up snagging the connector while digging around at a junkyard for something else. I might be able to dig up a part number for you. I think it was a 95 that I got it out of.
I used aluminum tape and have had no problems. I made sure to scuff and acetone my tape as well. The tape is still slightly visible under the Monstaliner, but it's not very noticeable. A couple more coats would probably fix it. Mine is black. Not sure how noticeable it is with different tints...
So is this the underdrive input gear? If so, does it work for the 80 series?
I'm not all that knowledgeable with gears, but looking to dive in soon.
Edit: Nevermind I figured it out.
I just picked up a JDM from a local part-out, but he didn't have any of the wiring, just the fan itself. Did SOR have the male plug and wiring? i'm trying to stay as OEM as possible and Sumo's write-ups are a little over my head.
I had my mustache long before I met my wife, so her being pro-mustache was definitely a deciding factor for me. My wife has only seen my face completely shaved once. Said she felt like she was cheating on me with me and didn't know how to process that.
That was what I had decided would be probably be best. I had seen some vinyl kits, but was leaning towards this. Thanks for the motivation. Not much else to do right now anyhow...
