Am i the only one that is pissed off about when you read the sidewall of a tire and it says 35x12.50R16 and it measures out to be 33 inches tall versus the advertised 35 inches? Its not like the price "35" inch tire is the price of a 33.
I just want to get what i paid for!

I feel i have to ask people who have bought the exact tire that i want, to go out and measure the tires for me. Unfortunately the tires that i want are not at the local stores, or I would just go measure em myself. when i order tires online and look at the tire chart and it reads that a 35 is 34.8 inches in diameter i would hope that it would be close. It simply is not. I have heard the argument that the tires are measured at 80 psi. 80psi ?!?!? who ever runs there tires at 80psi. that's the equivalent of the EPA measuring mpg when traveiling 50 mph. who goes 50 mph anymore?! speed limit is 70mph.

So what I am proposing is that we start a thread with ACTUAL TIRE sizes posted. I will start it off.

Toyo Open Country MT 38x15.50R16 (sidewall) actual size 36x14R16 at 15 psi on 16x10 inch wheels

Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ 36x15.50R16 (sidewall) actual size 34x14.50 at 35psi on 16x10 inch wheels

Remington Mud Brutes 315x75R16 (sidewall) actual size 34x12 at 35 psi on 16X8 wheels

Super Swamper TSL bias ply 36x12.50R15 (sidewall) actual size 34.5x12 at 30 psi on15x5.5 inch wheels

I listed the tires at psi levels in case anyone asks. I don't find a significant difference between 15 psi and 45psi maybe a 1/4 inch. the tires i have owned are almost a full 2 inch difference between actual tire size and advertised tire size..

How are you measuring? I'm assuming mounted with weight on them? From the ground to the shoulder of the tread? The tread width or the overall tire width?

Kinda makes me want to go out and measure my 35's.

tires are mounted on vehicle. width is measured sidewall to sidewall. measure total diameter of tire. please include wheel width and current psi. This will help us all when we are purchasing tires so we think we are getting what we should be getting.

42x14x17 Bias IROK's on a 17x9" wheel - 41" at 20psi or so.

I have 42x14x17 Bias IROKS on 17 x 9.5... 40.5" at 4 psi.

Yeah, pisses me off too ...

Goodyears are true sizes, as are military spec tires (michelin and Goodyear)

Don't know what else ..... I will learn

BFG KM2 315 75 R16 measures 34 inches at 45 psi on a 16x8 wheel mounted on FJ62.

37x13.50R15 Pitbull Rockers mounted on 15x10 wheels at 32 PSI on the front of my 60 measures 35.25". They have one run on them and should therefore be very, very close to the brand new size.

I believe the mfg sizes are mounted at full pressure and measured by circumference with no weight on them. Not saying they're still not smaller than advertised, just that you're comparing apples to oranges if you're measuring with your rig sitting on them at 15psi

37x12.5x17 radial rockers on 17x9 wheels @20 psi measure 36" about 800 miles on them.

One thing missing from this thread is the % wear at the time the measurments were taken (except a couple exceptions).

I wonder has anyone measured with weight on then jacked the axle up just enough so the tire was still touching and see the difference?

The other thing missing from this thread, and any thread I could find of similar substance, is the mounted dimensions of a 37x12.5x17 Blue Krawler mounted on an 17x8 wheel.

Yes, the wear would be a noteworthy addition. The best measurement I've been able to come up with is from a shop in Houston that stated a measurement of "36", but they're bald". Bahahaha
