Yes, we really need to get more folks on board for ham radio
West coast guys are into them in many of the clubs

there's a need out west for HAM where vast distances are covered and many times hours from the nearest town or city. Not the same here on the east coast where you fart without your neighbor knowing about it. :bang:

Ham Radio Exams - New Licenses and Upgrades

2nd Sunday of Every Month starting promptly at 2:00 p.m.

Primary areas served: Gwinnett County, GA and the surrounding area
Sponsor: Gwinnett Amateur Radio Society (GARS)
Talk-In: GARS Repeater on 147.075(+) MHz, Tone 82.5 Hz

WHAT TO BRING:
· Bring a Photo ID. (Driver’s license, Passport, etc.)
· Bring your Social Security card.
· Minors without a Photo ID must bring their SS Card and Birth Certificate.
· Bring your original license and two (2) copies of the original license.
· Bring your original CSCE and two (2) copies for any outstanding elements passed.
· Bring a pen and a pencil with eraser.
· Calculators with memory must be cleared. Cell phones are not allowed.
· Current Exam Fee is $14.00. Cash only. Checks are not accepted.
· Walk-ins are welcome. No pre-registration required.

Love my HAM. Was one of the best things I have done. Love it on trips.checking weather..etc. Test wasnt that difficult. Also it was needed when we went to the Whee. The back of the back didnt have comms with the front of the pack. I know me and Robert realyed info back and forth. Just do it..youll be amazed with it.
 
whats a ballpark price of all the testing, radio, antenna, etc?
 
The cost of the test is somewhere around $15

A good 2 meter ham radio will set you back about $300 if you buy it new.

Heres the upgraded version of mine. I have the Yaseu 7800 with the detachable face. Makes mounting easy as the main radio went was under the seat and the face was mounted in front of the shifter. I am sure there are cheaper ones but these are very good units. Im very happy with mine and will be goign into the 85 here soon.


I would look for a good used one. Maybe a 7800 or 8800. If you get it from a good source I wouldnt hesitate about getting a used one. They are long lasting little machines.

Just ordered my baofeng UV-5RE+ handheld. It was only $38 so I couldn't resist. Now I have to study and take the test.
