Need to get a manual but, saving for xmas so it will have to wait for now. Hope you guys will still help me Good threads on troubleshooting but didn’t come across the answers I was after. Could use some mud brain power.
4 questions -
(1) How many and where are all the factory grounds? I want to start by Re-grounding/checking these and do the same to my “other” accessories (I am centralizing these grounds)
(2) Ref question 1: I am centralizing grounds to my “other” accessories (include: “hot” fuse panel that powers 3 sets rock lights & stereo) and things connected directly to the battery (include: second elec. fan for cooling, “hot” fuse panel (non-issue), 1 other thing. Q: My central ground is currently going to a bolt on the inner fender well (removed paint). Do I need to go from that bolt to the frame? (FYI -Battery + goes to starter and neg. from block to neg. on battery)
(3) Are "power-on" accessories able to have a parasitic draw when the ignition is in the off position?
(4) (less of a cruiser question) What gauge wire should I have running from the alt to the battery for charging when running SBC350 Chevy + dizzy.
---background---
I have a '69 55. Have a SBC350 conversion done by a PO.
Have had a hell of time with the electrical and will spare the stories. Got the alt tested – it was good, got a brand new battery - yellow top optima, drove it, worked well, let it sit for 2 weeks with battery ground disconnected.
Pulled out truck to go for spin on Saturday last week, drove for a bit (less then 15mins), parked it with battery connected and smile on my face
Problems solved - thought the issue was a bad red-top.
Got in the truck toward the end of the day Sunday to move it - flat dead battery. Wouldn't even power a light. This whole issue started after a trip on the Rubicon exiting out the Tahoe side through the washboards so, I am starting with my grounds first. Centralize grounds for anything “hot” and check factory grounds.
