Good for you! You have the only year the cyclonic air filter housing came in Canada...afaik...unless a PO removed it to keep it...

Cyclonic air filter??? never heard of this. care to elaborate?

Congrats man, you and I have the same truck. Or, same year and color at least. Tell us your plans for it! Where are you located?

B

Located In South/west Ontario Canada. As for plans some new tires and suspension and drive it.. For now.. Roads get pretty snowy here and can't wait for some 4x4 action.. I drive a VW Jetta Diesel to commute to work.. and have been hooked on Diesel's ever since.

I think he is referring to Toyota's Cyclone air filter you get on later models.
Thats what the manual calls it

Nice wheels,

Was that truck listed in the Auto Trader? Is it a home grown Ontario rig?

If it is, it looked like a good deal from the add. I think it is very hard to find a decent BJ42 with the 5sd tranny. I've seen some outrageous prices for them in good condition.

I don't think you mean this one , do you? It looks a little cherry and is not "a good deal" but looks to be in great shape. According to the cruiserfaq, only 167 of these were sold in Canada in 1983, so they are damn rare.

It was in Ontario but not in the auto Trader.. He found me out of a want add in the TRIAD.
what type of oil does this diesel take.?? I use 5w40 Synthetic in my VW

I just put some 0/40 Esso XD-3 Synth in my 13BT. I feel comfortable doing so as the pan and pushrod cover are factory FIPG.

Note on intersting oil stuff:

1) Delo 400 15/40 is consistanty up there as one of the best. The additive package as been changed lately, making it even better.

2) Shell Rotella 15/40 seems to be a good one too, and has the "million mile" saying.

3) Esso/Exxon XD-3 Dino 15/40 is getting good reviews too. Look on the bottom of the containor and you will see three stars.

Wal-Mart Tech 2000 15/40 diesel oil has a "million mile" saying on the packaging.

Superstore "pres choice" 15/40 diesel oil has three stars on the bottom of the packaging.

(draw your own conclusions...I am not saying it is fact)

I am undecided if I am going to run the 0/40 all year round in the 13BT, or go with the Pres in the spring/summer/fall.

Hi wayne. When I was doing my research I looked at both the 15/40 semi synth, and 0/30, but I could not find a diesel rated 0/30 Shell product so I know soot handling ability is there. The 15/40 is diesel rated. Am I looking at the wrong 0/30?

Thanks

the stuff i am running is the Rottella winter blend, i was told this is for the big rigs that run in extreme cold conditions...

Found the info sheet Wayne. Wally Worlds 0/30 was not rated for diesels at all (the one I saw). http://www.shell-lubricants.com/products/pdf/RotellaTSyntheticBlend.pdf The 0/30 you are using likely has CG-4 on the containor as speced in the link, as there is a 0/30 T-Synth blend that is rated for diesels.

Sorry to jack the thread Stiffler...will post a pic of a cyclonic housing when I get a chance to take one. It looks upside down when compared to the 1981, 1983 and 1984 BJ42 cans.

Well if someone else is looking for an "ultra rare" 1983 BJ42 there is another one in the Autotrader for Ontario.

Looks to have a alum. tube and maybe some resto done to it. The k's are low and he wants 14,500 CDN. Is that good?
