Dear all,

I am looking forward to install a tachnometer on my bj40. I have a 3B engine, does anyone know where to get a tach for this engine? If do, where do i install it on the engine?

All i know diesel tachnometer measures engine rpm via the flywheel teeth. Am i correct. Hope there is a aftermarket tach for the 3b engine.

thanks all

:grinpimp:

I have a tachometer I bought about 25 years ago, 24V, works off the alternator but you have to open up the alternator and attach a wire to one of the diodes. This one suggested by Diesel42 would be much easier to install, but I don't know if you are 12V or 24V, or if that Autometer tach is available for 24V (I will eventually need one for my blue truck).

tach

thanks guys..the tach looks nice and functional. I look at the attachment and not quiet sure how it works.

The sensor attached on the outter casing of the alternator not the inside of the diode.

How does it work, pulsing signal from the alternator signal?

thanks

Many of us also run this one: Tiny-Tach: Diesel Tachometers

The sensor clamps to the injector line and senses when it fires.

What are the differences between DTL-6 and DTL-1/4? Same price at 95, what is a transducer?

which model did you buy?

thanks

The transducer is the sensor that clamps onto the injector line. DTL-6 is a 6mm clamp, DTL-1/4 is a 0.25" clamp. Toyota's are metric - go with the 6mm.

This thread has achieved a ripe old age, but to anyone who cares, I have a question. . . Would it be possible to run a Autometer 3788 by getting the power for the tach from a 12V circuit (from a 24v-12v converter) and then just sticking the sensor on the alt? Or would the 24V system connected to the alternator confuse the tachometer?

Thanks

got my tach installed...looking forward to knowing what my RPMs are :D

A bit small for these old eyes, and could only be better by having a 6000 RPM range instead of 10000, but it should be working for you - I bet you are already driving your truck by the tachometer instead of the speedometer.

Wanted to clear-up my additional gauges...just in case :)

the round 0-18 gauge on the left is the pyro (exhaust temp).
the round 0-30 gauge on the right is the turbo boost.
remaining square gauge below the boost is the digital tiny-tach tachometer/hour meter.

Question for my fellow tiny-tach owners:
During a recent drive, the display on my tiny-tach light up.
This was a complete and appreciated surprise, as I wasn't aware of this feature :)

My question is, how do you enable the back-light?

don't remember where I put the owners data-sheet :p

thanks,
manny

Hmmm. :hhmm: Mine is backlit all the time. I don't remember seeing anything about the backlight in the instruction sheet. If no one pipes in beforehand, I can check tomorrow. The instructions are at home and I'm not. I just checked the Tiny Tach website, and the description on there says "lighted display". The instruction manual on the website is a bit different than the one they sent me, but it doesn't say anything about turning on the backlight.

Maybe try calling them and asking.

will give them a call this week...
thanks

contacted tinytach,
They're going to send me a replacement :)
Once I've verified everything is working properly, I'll send them my old one...

tinytach,
your customer service is appreciated :)

Reviving an old thread. My question is my fuel lines are 8mm or 5/16" ID, which is already larger than the 1/4" Tiny Tach supposedly accommodates in standard mode. What size are your injector lines and which transducer fits? Thanks.
