During the March 19th meeting, Sam mentioned that he had spoken with his forest service contact (whose name I have forgotten) and he mentioned that we could come out the 8th or 22nd of June for "Brighten the Sangres". We thought that posting a poll here would be a good idea. I figured I would set the voting to close the day before the meeting in May.
Many at the meeting mentioned that the 8th would probably be more "fun" for several reasons (snow, more trail repair needed, etc.).
For other newbies like me, I found this info about the "Brighton The Sangres" experience from the US Forest Service site (circa 2007, so I have no idea how much of this is still accurate):

WESTCLIFFE. Colo., May 31, 2007…”Brighten The Sangres” trail opening and maintenance day will take place on Saturday, June 16 near Westcliffe. The event helps to open trails above the Rainbow Trail in Custer County and is sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service-Pike and San Isabel National Forests, Rocky Mountain Backcountry Horsemen, Pueblo West Horseman’s Association, Colorado Land Cruisers, Quad Dusters, Wet Mountain Valley Saddle Club, Royal Gorge ATVs, Westcliffe Supermarket and the Sangre de Cristo Broadband.
Workers should bring a bowsaw or nippers; work clothing, gloves, and rain gear; water and lunch. Trail work will include trash pickup, removing dead limbs and trees off trails and clearing rocks, and installing water bars.
Sign in is at 8:30 a.m. at the Custer County Fairgrounds building inside the Rodeo grounds off of Highway 69 at the north edge of Westcliffe. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided.
After a full day’s work, dinner will be provided free and entertainment will be present. Come join the fun, food and music after a day of trail work in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
