For the first time since 2006, the roof of the 80 is naked! I may just have to take a drive to enjoy the extra mpg!! Moonroof glass is cracked and I'm getting it replaced before Moab. This necessitated removing the INTI rack and cutting 12 wires to the rack lights. Wires are no problem, but the INTI is a heavy SOB and unwieldy in it's size. Takes two people to lift/remove it. Per Boydmick's suggestion, I will enjoy the ride to/from the body shop enjoying the moonroof open w/o the howling wind thru the INTI! ;p

I've crimped snap-on conncetors to the truck and rack and will seal them from weather and dust with heat shrink tubing upon reinstallation.

Task today is to put on a few coats of wax that's a real PITA with the rack on.

Good title Brent, for a minute there I thought you finally ditched the flares! Bet she goes 10 miles an hour faster now. :D

 I'll find out in the morning! I haven't even had her on the road since I took the rack off, but she's going in for new glass Wednesday morning. I don't want the wiring pigtails flapping around too much back by the hatch. Perhaps I'll make it to Lake Forest on 1/2 a gallon instead of a full gallon! :bounce:

I have to say that I like the clean looks of the beast w/o the rack up there! If I didn't have the permanent electrical coming thru the roof or like the lights up there for night driving (not that I've done much), I'd really consider selling the INTI, but that just isn't going to happen!

Bummer about the glass! I wonder how it broke.... Are you replacing the seals in the sunroof as well, since it all coming out? I am needing to get my sunroof seals redone.... it was leaking like crazy on Friday with all that rain.

They got the glass - one of two left in the country per the body shop. I asked about the gaskets/seals, etc. and they said they'd received what they needed from Toyota.

It was hard for me to put my INTI back up there after driving without a rack. The truck feels so much better without anything on the roof.

You got that right! I like the cleaner looks too...except for the bundle of wires coming out the PS rear of the roof!

The Cruiser is just like a woman; when she gets older she loses her rack. Ba-dump-pa.

Sorry, all this talk of naked and racks just got me off topic.:meh:

Too funny...and true!

Picked her up yesterday afternoon. Brand new Yota glass in. Per Boyd's instructions, and with a beautiful day, drove home sun roof open and it was wonderful not having the howling wind thru the INTI up there! Alas, there are twelve pig tailed wires waiting for their mates on the rack, so it'll go back on this weekend.

No more pics - everyone knows (except Boyd) what a sun roof looks like.

Didn't get around to putting the rack back on until Sunday morning when manpower was available to hoist the thing onto the roof. In the coastal drizzle/mist got the 12 wires reconnected and heat shrink tubing shrunk down on them and secured the rack. There'll be no water/dust/etc. getting into those connectors. Glad it's all back together. Leave for Moab next Sunday!!! :bounce::bounce2:

I had a loaded rack on my Runner for 13 years and am over having the weight and drag up there. Plus mine is built to crawl first, expedition second so the excess weight and clearance issues are even more detrimental.

Agreed - I could really tell a difference driving the truck w/o the rack. Drove it in to work this morning just to make sure everything was as secure as it should be in advance of Moab departure Sunday and could absolutely tell the rack was back up there.

Your rig does look bad ass with the Initi up there. Maybe the cool factor outweighs the drag factor. :grinpimp:

 Hmmm.....Rack on, will put wood and fire pit up there for the trip to Moab and have a trailer in tow. I'll be happy with 10 mpg!

That is what I get in mine without a rack!
