Well I had an opportunity to run bullfrog with a "mostly" jeep club and I have to say, "I think I represented the Ole' 80 pretty well". Most of the people were pretty impressed with what the "Lexus" could do. This is a challenging, but extemely fun trail to run. The adrenaline rush is constant, and if your afraid of a little rock rubbin', then don't go. But chicks dig scars right, :D. I highly recommend rock sliders as I relied on them constantly, and my new 4x4 labs rear bumper, gosh, I was dragging it across every steep approach/exit. Even with the good departure angle, it still took a lot of abuse. My stock front bumper took its share of punishment as well, and my driver side rear flare should have been ripped off it is wasn't for the integrated door cladding. I think that is the only reason it's still on, minus a little paint. This is the first time I have been in Johnson Valley/Cougar Buttes and it is quite different from Anza Borrego. The rock formations are one of a kind. I highly recommend a visit. Well, here are a few shots of the trip, enjoy.

Bullfrog Run

This was a challenging obstacle and required both front and rear lockers to climb. With the front still locked, I had a helluva time turning the front wheel and after a few attempts, I had to move forward, consequently dropping my front driverside into a big gap. This caused me to flop onto my side , but just before I kissed the rocks, the group watching, saved me. The pictures don't do it justice.

I am happy to have driven away without a scratch, well, at least on that obstacle.

Great pic's! Looks like it was a lot of fun.

You were telling me how this is similar to you to your passion and adrenalin you get from biking... I have to say for someone who is relatively newer to this hobby you have really sunk your teeth in and seem to have a "go big or go home approach" Those are really good action shots. Considering I know things are always gnarlier than the photos give away, that is some serious wheeling

So true. I get the same stoke from the rock crawling that I do when I downhill a gnarly descent on my mountain bike....I can't get enough. My friends that I ride with have always known me for the one that never takes the easy way out, adrenaline junkie for sure! :D

Great set of pics and write up.

awesome pictures derrick! one of my favorite trails!

Thanks! On the pictures, I have to give credit to Jeff Forrest who runs the 4x4corps website and the runs. He must have taken over a thousand pictures of the event and he gets an equal amount of shots for everyone which is totally cool.

Great pictures! It's definitely a fun trail. Glad that rock didn't take your side out.

BTW Derrick...

I used to have my HiLift mounted on my factory roof rack. Over time as the weight of the hi-lift shook the rack, it loosened the rack to where the screws holding it in were widening the holes, eventually it was unable to be tightened.

I can't tell if that is your factory rack but I just wanted to warn you. ;)

Hey Zach,
Thanks for the heads up. Yes, it's the factory rack and I've already noticed that one of the screws is stripped/loose. The heavy jack constantly loosens the handscrews on the crossbars as well, but I hate having the jack inside the vehicle. Eventually, I will have a rear swingout tire carrier with a jack mount for the 4x4Labs bumper. Also I plan on removing the stock rack eventually.

I plan on removing the stock rack eventually.

Perfect way to do it:D I guess you can just plug the holes when the time comes. If you or I had ever stopped suddenly that thing would become a scud missle;p
