I have been super happy with my 285/76-16 Falken Rocky Mountain ATS tires from Discount Tire. See my posts here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/571786-falken-rocky-mountain-ats-mounted-80-a.html

I can't leave well enough alone and I began to wonder if the 315/76-16 would fit down below in the stock location. I've read several posts that say yay and nay. I really don't want to have to deal with a swing away tire carrier behind the tailgate.

I BORROWED A new 315 Falken from my buddy at a local Discount Tire and guess what... IT FITS like a glove with the factory tow hitch installed. Certainly no spare room but I was able to winch it up and down without too much profanity. I think I will order the AJIK relocation kit and see if I can get it tucked up a couple more inches.

285/75-16 mounted. 315/75-16 outside. 315 is about 2.5 to 2.75 taller than 285.

Very nice... I too am very happy with my Rocky Mountain ATS's in the 285 flavor.

My next set just might be 315's...

I have 4 285/75-16 in great shape with low mileage. I have a 5th (spare) which has never been on the ground. I also have road hazard certificates for all from Discount Tire. If I sold mine I would get the 315s. I would make someone a good deal. ;)

Nice. I had my 315's less than a month and I wanted to go bigger.:bang::D It never ends.

Do you have stock gearing? If no, what do you have? Thoughts?

my 315 duratrac would not fit at all. ur lucky.

Yes, stock gears. I really didn't even noticed the power loss going from stock to 315's. Only place I really feel it is driving up mountain passes.

My port-installed hitch is different that yours....and likely has less room for the spare.

Make sure that the spare isn't touching the panhard bar on the rear suspension. Then you're good to go!

It IS touching the panhard bar... Now what?!

Most newer 315's are slightly too big to run in that location. A tire that is less than 34.25 inches seems to fit most LC's that are running a stock hitch. My suggestion is to run a super skinny spare (34x9.5x16) Swamper on a 16 x 6 steel trailer wheel. With your hitch, it will almost be entirely tucked up and out of the way. With the AJIK relocation kit and a 1.5 BL, my hitch becomes the lowest point in the back and makes a great defacto rockslider. Of course, I do not run that spare in the rotation, but it's close enough in size to a 315 that I can run it if need be to get me back home without worrying about damaging the 4wd system.

Can you please share the exact tire and wheel specs you mentioned for your spare so I know what I would need to purchase?

I run the interco part number SAM-21. It's a true 34 inch tire, which is bigger than my old style 315 MTR's and slightly smaller than my new 315 MTR's.

It isn't a pretty tire, by my standards at least, but it will do the job of a spare when called upon. Where it is at, I can't see it anyway and I don't like to use a rear tire carrier since I'm always getting in the back of the rig for something with 3 kids. It may not be the solution for everyone, but I've been very happy going this route.
