A while back I picked up a Suby scoop to use as a vent by flipping it backwards.

I had some rust on the hood and on the rear upper hatch. Yes, the dreaded rust spot at the bottom f the glass.

So off to the my friends shop to get the rust fixed and the scoop installed.

Here is what I am thinking...

The cut

So the holes in the hood started.. The hood braces were left in place given that I got 2 large holes to work with..

Final product

I had them shave the bottom of the scoop to get a flush fit.

Took my first long trip(2hrs each way) to PA and back to Long Island this weekend. Even after sitting on the GW Bridge for 30 mins I got home and the temps were much lower. I can even feel the heat coming out the vent with the motor idling.... Great investment IMHO

Can you take a pic standing further back from your truck to get a good idea of what the over all look is like? I like the idea of leaving the middle brace alone witht the two big holes on each side, nice work.

Jrob80, I'll post some more pics a little later... Thanks

nice job, it looks sweet!! Was it a personal preference to face the vent towards the windshield? Now you have an auto-snow/ice defroster!

Great I look forward to seeing the pics!

I remember in an older thread when Romer still had his 80 he bought a Subu scoop and there was a lot of discusion about which way to face it. I think the census was that facing it back towards the w/s would get the greatest amout of air flow.

Cool to see one mounted up. I've been thinking if/when I put an intercooler on my 1HD-T that I would use a Subaru scoop and mount an electric fan in it to keep air flowing at low speeds. It looks like it belongs there for sure!

Nice clean job.

Tpham32, Cruisin' , arndog123, thanks for the complements.

Cruisin" got enough room to mount 2 small fans

Tpham32, you are correct, IMHO it allows for the most air flow through the engine compartment

More pictures.

Good work man! I love this forum. This morning, i was thinking of doing just this.... Get home and log on this afternoon and see this. The GTP vent mod is great, but i thought that using a WRX scoop would be neat. Looks mean.

That thread was my inspiration....

Thanks - Jrob80

Thanks Josh

Since the shop didn't cut the hood insulation correctly I had them order a new one and supervised the cut an install. I want the protect the cut edges with tape. Looking for ideas on what to use??

What about the foil tape used to seal duct work maybe?

I dont how well it will stick.

It is cheap and worth a shot

If not I would use good old duct tape

looks nice

I think you better find something that can stand a good bit of heat in regard to covering the cut edge of the hood insulation...

Thanks Roger and Elbert..... I am thinking a dynomat type tape....have not found it.

My experience is that nothing sticks to that fiberglass schtuff...
